Following a fall worthy of Coco the sodding clown, involving a polished floor, a pair of socks, a cup of coffee and a laptop which now refuses to boot, presumably because I've corrupted the boot area by knocking it to the floor mid swallow dive, I'm now resorting to sticky backed blogging upstairs using my rattly old desktop which I ain't been neer in ages. Need to visit Hammy House tomorrow for a few bits and pieces (principally the windows 2000 disc) and then I can swear as I sort the bloody thing out. However where one PC disaster beckons another closes following a succesful trip to Tracy's to sort her web connection. I then came back and didn't make Hammy House as initially planned because I came over all energetic and decided a walk in Sefton park'd do me good. Stupid idea, I got to the Palm House and discovered I had what I thought was a pebble in my shoe. I removed shoe and shook it to release the offending object into the wild and returned to my walk. However I was still in pain, so headed back to the car trying to ignore it. Got home to find a splinter of glass in my foot, no wonder it sodding hurt. Now by this stage I'm frantic about the cup final, all this shit going down and I'm prepared for the humiliation of a Southampton win. Caught all the build up, even tidied away the dry clothing, and I'm getting progressively more nervous. The game kicks off and first half we take the lead thanks to the wonderful Robert Pires and I'm in tatters, we're gonna ship goals I just know it. The way my lucks been today it has to happen. As a result I spent the rest of the game watching the clock and nibbling my nails, but we won, Yeeeeeeesssssssssssssssss! Go see Arseblog, one nil to the aresnal.....

Letter arrived from Cairs today detailing additions to Cairs-web, now offers thesaurus functionality (if only I did - another side project to sort sometime) and e-mail functionality, on the web front end. Now I'm interested in all of this. Just need to price it. Heritage users eat yer hearts out, we'll beat the crap out of you as ever....

Described as an idea from the back of a taxi, the NHS University seems to be gathering pace. Personally I like the idea of skills escalators, who knows, librarian today - surgeon tomorrow (well maybe not as anyone who knows me will testify I can't keep track of where I've left my coffee let alone anything else, let me loose on a heart transplant and I'd be running round the theatre muttering 'I know I had a heart round here somewhere'). I just have visions moving up them like people at Tottenham Court Road tube station.....

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhh! I hate technology that falls over. Explorers crashed mid catalogue, not a disaster in itself, but I've lost some blog entries as a result in the other blog. In here to check the thing's still functioning. Read arseblog over lunch, another person hankering after the cup final build up, stoopid but true.... Celebrity fans, where do they drag 'em in from?

Idiot boy wanders out of the building, no coat to get food at lunchtime and then wonders why he gets wet. Where is the cup final weather, it should be sunny. I believe tomorrow will be at the least dry, because it's the cup final. Much banter today as a result of the cup final with Pete in HR, a staunch Manc, wishing Arsenal ill, still it was fun remembering their highlights, Man City at Maine Road, Bolton and Real Madrid. Haven't checked out arseblog in a few days, will go there now in the tail end of lunch... In the meanwhile Alan dragged down our display boards and I fetched Mo's box from yesterday's 'Learning at Work Day' event. Don't know what Mo did but she got rid of every BookCrossing book she had. Top job. In the meanwhile grey lit cataloguing for the first time in ages, if you want to know what just check out the 'La valise est perdue parmi des trangers - Grey Literature We Missed' section of Fade the Blog and if you can't be bothered, just don't go. In the meanwhile I've finally got my archives up to date, just need to sort the links here.

Interesting stuff from Strategic Health Authority about knowledge management with Paul Charnley asking for a KM for idiots paper, time to introduce him to Val Clark I think. Meanwhile need to track down Stevie P. to nick some of his time.
Library rocking to the lovely Chumbawamba having had a bit of a Hefner with synths bash with an early listen to 'Dead Media'. Now I like 'Dead Media', principly because I like it when bands twist and change shape and do things I'm not expecting, plus it rekindled an age old interest in analogue synths I'd forgotten about (how stupid were my pronouncements that the guitar was dead, long live the synth in the early 80's, my only defence is I was young). Yesterday's focus group was a good gig, interesting. 'Learning at Work Day' kinda fell flat at Bridge Chapel, need to find out how Mo got on on Monday... Bumped into Ken which as ever was a true delight.Posted by Kieran at 5/16/2003 07:51:00 am
Quick turn around on a guide to google, mostly their work but a bit of me thrown in. Plan on pointing it towards the Rapidly Diminishing Ken Clare for constructive criticism so I can sharpen it up. Usual case though, need it for Learning at Work events today, so when do I pull it together and write it, this morning...... Focus group, got a box to take to the car. Off to Goodison (link for any toffees out there) to set up before mooching round to Rathbone for this OT focus group. Already dispatched Leanne to Bridge Chapel I'll see her down there later. Already feels like Leanne is very much part of the crew here and she's doing a top job. See another person's wandered here looking for information on sleeping goldfish, now the topic mildly amuses me if you want real information go here.

9.45 to 16.15 of accreditation, all I did was talk, talk, talk, my throat hurts, I feel totally shattered and need sleep. Guess the accreditation went OK, an interesting and I worthwhile experience, now we just wait a fortnight for the report...... Bookcrossing gets it's first real outing at the 'Learning at Work Day' tomorrow. We cover Goodison and Bridge Chapel. Need to set up in the morning at both venues. Leave Leanne at Bridge Chapel, hoof it to Rathbone Hospital for a focus group with OT's, back up to Goodison to drop Mo off, then back to Bridge Chapel. Mad day. Need to sort a few things out at work first as well. Another mad day...................

Sat here listening to 'Luxor' Robyn Hitchcock's latest outing on whatever it is that CDs and plastic bullets are made of. It's not bad at a first listen through, very much in the 'Eye', 'I Often Dream of Trains' acoustic tradition. Cool. Just tidying up my pits in the library pre-accreditation and getting ready to hang a respectibility rag (tie if you need a translation) round my neck. Words from Robyn (not from Luxor if you don't know his work but kinda appropriate for today!) I'm sitting here in the abandoned brain Waiting for take-off in it They say it's never going to work again But I can spare a few minutes Been here before in the abandoned brain There's flowers on all the controls The tape keeps telling me again and again That I'm the keeper of souls Anyway though I feel kinda disconnected on this one, I've hit the 24 hour Asda at Hunt's cross for essential supplies, so we can now feed the ravening hordes with cream cakes, fruit (are you listening public health, this is me serving fruit!), fruit juice, a few pringles and we have the sarnies on order. Picked up some new mugs and glasses for the library the other day so we can even server 'em in some style. Bring it on....

Sat in an all too quiet library. Everyone's gone and I've just registered the last of the Bookcrossing Books for release at the learning at work day. An interesting day of FOI at stockton Health, bit of info skills training pm and avoiding all of the tidying up (sorry girls, I'll put my back into it last minute as ever tomorrow). Accreditation looms tomorrow, just don't know what to think about it. Should go OK I guess...

Meeting with Steve R from Knowsley MBC at the school about Cal and the lack of a statement for him was interesting. It was set for 4.00 so I turned up to find Monst and Claire the Speech and Language Therapist form Knowsley PCT at 3.45. The teachers were there but no sign of Mr. R. Monst got frustrated and rang him at 4.30 (bit of common courtesy and a call to say he was running late or not coming would have been nice, but wasn't forthcoming). Apparently he was in a meeting (yeah, right I'm convinced, mind you I believe gnomes operate cashpoint machines and that the reason you have a withdrawl limit is that they get hit by hammers an amount in accordance with the amount of money you want, ask for too much and you're gonna knock the poor little buggers out). Eventually on arrival he took some issue with the statement in my letter informing of our decision to appeal that reminded him contrary to his view we were not after Cal's school fees. Apparently he never said that to Sharon on the phone, mind you that means she never called me in tears over it. He never said that some people had tried to get school fees by requesting a statement of SEN, when he came out on his first home visit to us, implicitly suggesting that's exactly what he thought we were up to. So I apolagised for my mistaken understanding, by which I didn't implicitly say you're a lying little shit. Anyway he's gone away to look at a short term part-time placement at the Speech and Language Unit and courses for the school.
On the plus side, Claire revealed herself to be a little star, well worth her money, and a good guy to boot. The school were solid as ever (still really chuffed with them) and Monst and I were sufficiently controlled not to lose it big style with Steve. However the more I see of people from local authorities (with a few notable exceptions Steve Marsh amongst 'em) the more I think Care Trusts will be a total screw up. They ain't worth there money. Meeting with HCLU this morning was interesting to say the least, but I can't say anything about it and Dr. Diab's didn't happen because IT stopped play. In the meanwhile Cal is chomping through the marmite pot raw.Posted by Kieran at 5/12/2003 09:56:00 pm 0 rants

Just visiting the Rapidly Diminishing Ken Clare's Blog gives me a sense of well being, I'm not the only one running around like a total loon at the moment. Hope things work out for Ken on the family front. I should be heading to bed, but can't face it just yet, in the middle of a re-read of 'A Big Boy Did It and Ran Away' the first of the Angel X books by Christopher Brookmyre. Bits of it are set round the years I was at college, and as ever the music references make perfect sense. I love the descending chaos, it really is a fine funny read. If you ain't tried his stuff this is a relatively good starting point. That and a drop of Mount Gay to help me sleep and I'm laughing. Just spoke to my folks, apparently Berkshire were edged out by a lucky Somerset and some dodgy umpiring at the hockey tournement they went to. The old man is well delighted at having been involved in the selection process. He likes being one of the great and good in the hockey world, I suspect the old dear is just in favour of anything that helps him relax and isn't work. Word is they have a rat problem at the house (one waved at them from the garden the other night while chomping on the bird food the olds insist on putting out now they're reaching their dotage). The council aren't interested unless the things are nesting (the old fella reckons they are under the shed) which is cheering them up mightily. I know the old fella hates rats with a passion (I tend to vote that way myself) so he's bound to be stressed by the whole deal. Hammers went down, bit of a shame really. Everton failed to get european football, a bigger shame, they'd have enjoyed it and could do with the extra dosh. Bolton survived to be awkward next year. Then next week it's the cup final....... allez les rouges.

Cal and I went swimming today. OK that puts it a bit strongly, Cal floated and scooted himself around in his bouyancy aid, I supervised and disappeared under water on request. I feel knackered, want to kip, but need to cook dinner and get Monst to work, and I've a shed load of work to do. Plan B from Planet 9 is an early night, a really early rise, do some stuff here, take Cal to work, print out what I need to print out there, leave notes for the crew, drop Cal at school and scoot to Walton Hall to the HCLU meeting, then rush to Dr. Diabs, then back to Cal's school for a meeting with the school, speech and language, and local authority. I hope the guy from the local authority ain't hoping I'm gonna be in a good mood! Meanwhile West Ham and Bolton struggling against relegation. Don't know which I'd prefer to go down......
