Copland Road Stand

The news on the tickets for Ibrox begins to filter through, we're in the Copland Road Stand which is as far away from the away supporters as you can get. A quiet evening from me then. Tom is apparently getting dead excited, mind you he's not the only one. For me it's part of the Brookmyre tour I'm planning, so I'll get to see the Govan Stand where Angel X if she wan't fictional would be hanging out.

Er...Lost a B&B

For Cal and Monst's trip on the Jacobite we booked on line a B&B in Fort William for a few days ages ago, via e-mail. Trouble was when my hard disc died so did the details. Thing was we realised this just yesterday so I spent a couple of hours trying to work out where we'd booked. In the end I thought I recognised the site and details of the Guisachan Guest House. So it was with some trepidation I gave the details to Monst who wanted to phone them to ensure that she'd got the right place. If she hadn't she was gonna kill me. Thank non-existent deities I got it right. Less embarrassing for her and less painful for me (I'd even read through this thing trying to see if I'd put details in to no avail). Anyway details are now here just in case they get lost again.

Tyranny of Scooby

Monst bought Scooby Doo-Ghoul School on DVD so guess what is on the TV at the moment. Yep, you've guessed. So I'm sat in the kitchen hiding, listening to Radio 5 and plan on playing Settlers IV for most of the day in retaliation....

Kartoo

Well someone wandered in via KartOO a visual meta search engine that uses flash to draw little maps. The size of each ball on the map shows how relevant and popular each site is. It's kind of interesting to play with but I'm not certain I'd use it in anger. Anyway I'm off for a coffee and read.

That's the Ticket

Good news for my hols, tom got the tickets for the Rangers - Arsenal game so get to see the Gunners in Glasgow. Cool or what. Really looking forward to it. Even better I also get to go to Edinburgh to see Laurence's gig at the festival. Can't be bad, really looking forward to it.

Curses Down to One Interviewee

Monday my short list has got shorter, Lillian Tracy's Mum has a new job so doesn't need ours. Worse still Nicola who we are due to interview Monday was one of the candidates for the Arrowe Park job so she may have a job by Monday too. Could need to fall back on Plan B. Trouble is there is no Plan B.

Are You Recieveing Me?

The following e-mail posted at work has had us in fits, Has Anybody lost a hearing Aid please contact reception

FTP Concluded

Hooray at last freed from the tyranny of FTP....... just need Stevie P. and Alan Wrobel to work their brand of magic and Fade the Web here we come......

FTP IV

As predicted my prediction in the Pit of Souls entry yesterday put the kiss of death on the finish of the FTP, so it's continuing today. Need to see Stevie P. too. Mo's last day so we need to take her for some kind of drink at a venue of her choice. A sad day for us but a good day for Mo. Anyway in the meanwhile shove in the Dentists 'Deep Six' (not there best it must be said but it's growing on me) and turn the volume up..... it's a library and it needs to rock....

Post Propel

There are days when you are reminded how shite the world is, today was one of them. Heard some bad news at Propel that I wish hadn't happened. My thoughts go out to those it concerns. Ken if you're sending out positive vibes, send some Clair's way. Propel gig was a bit coloured as a result. Went OK, got rid of more glossaries. Weather was horrible so I drove back on the M57 without being that aware of what was driving around me. Reminded me of my first ever motorway driving experience, M25 from Gatwick having been driven there by the old fella before the folks and Beck went to Yugoslavia. That left me no option but to hit the motorway in torrrential rain, a 70 mph trip through spray you couldn't see through then the horror of the M4. Never been so pleased to see Reading where I escaped it all in my natural. Cal's trip to Northern Primary went OK, free play, Monst said the kids were a bit much for him as they all wanted him to play and he didn't know where to start but apart from that it was OK. She was also forced to sign a form saying the placement was only for 20 weeks. Apparently she refused to sign until they'd checked with Dilys and Dilys had said the magic words subject to review. Good job done by Monst, they can't wriggle out of that now.

Pit of Souls

I. The Plateau FTP continues to burble away loading my pit of pdfs. II. The Descent People keep coming to work and the thing is slowing down. III. The Spiral Dance Still the FTP continues on its mazy way not failing yet. In the meanwhile I've copied more glossaries and the production team of Tracy and Leanne are binding the things. This occaisionally involves use of the key library tool, the hammer. Every library should have one. IV. The Flight Of The Iron Lung I put a curse on the FTP by suggesting it is going OK and will finish alright.

Job

Regular readers may recall we advertised an Assistant Librarian's job on July 02 well if I remember rightly I was extremely pessimistic about recruiting. Well I've had two quality applicants (on paper at least). Good news, plan on interviewing Monday.

FTP III

Third attempt at FTPing up the site data to the server. Must talk to Steve P. today. Shortlist for Mo's job and sort somewhere to hold interviews. All this, a desparate need for coffee and another Propel event. Plus I get the delights of the LIS teams sandwich students. Yippee....maybe it's just Thursday morning blues and I haven't woken up yet.

Still I am somewhat cheerd by the search from somewhere with in the NHS for Frank Bough Cocaine Orgy. What ever happened to the cardigan wearing one?

Cult

It isn't often I vote with Ian Astbury but I kind of get where he was coming from with Rain at the moment, Hot sticky scenes you know what I mean Hot sticky scenes, you know what i mean Like a desert sun that burns my skin Like a desert sun that burns my skin I've been waiting for her so long I've been waiting for her for so long Open the sky (and let her come down) Open the sky and let her come down Here comes the rain I love the rain Here she comes again Here comes the rain Rain Here comes the rain Rain Here she comes again Rain Here comes the rain Hot sticky scenes, you know what i mean

Propel

Zapped down to the Margaret Thompson Medical Centre am to see the practice library and agreed to catalogue it. That was cool, then back to Hammy House. Lucky me back in time for fire drill. We're in the middle of a search for something vital. The fire bell goes, the phone goes and we need to get out with me saying to Mic we'd get back to him as soon as. 10 minuted before we need to head for Propel too. Anyway all was sorted we arrived at the gig on time. Thank non-existent deities Tracy came, couldn't have done the stand and facilitated. Also bumped into Val, quick and good chat. Totally misunderstood a chat with George yesterday around records management. Need to sort it..... Lace Centre is an interesting venue. No sign of Pete Tatchel though. Instead we had Big Bob Steele and Ken Clare. Loads of water applied to ensure hydration retained.

Stars

OK so yesterday CHI published its star ratings, congratulations to South Liverpool PCT who scored 2 stars and as for the other Liverpool PCTs one star each. If you want to see the whole set of Primary Care, Mental Health and Learning Disability results just click the link to a mirror of the pdf thoughtfully provided by the Grauniad (I'd direct you straight to the CHI site but I'm reading the Grauniad at this minut and can't be arsed to go find the link to be honest). If it is acutes that float your boat their results are here, they get lumped in with specialists and ambulance trusts. I see that the Wimmins birthplace of Cal got a three star so well done to them and that Aintree have dropped a star to become a two star hospital.

Big question what does this all mean for patients? I guess this years ratings have been at least conducted independently but if they are a measure of care or not is open to debate. Better hospital food is one of the measures - got to be in favour of that.

Stage II FTP

Fade site is being FTP'd today so we just need to get CAIRS to do theire stuff and we're away.

Too Hot

My cunning plan to cope with the weather is to sleep on the living room floor tonight, it'll be the coolest place in the house. Every time we get a bit of nice weather I revert to an English stereotype and whinge, if the weather is horrible I doo the same, why? Even worse I know I'm doing it, it's just weather.....

Lack of Information and Freedom of Information

An early start and a complete waste of effort. Got in planning to FTP the rest of my bits to the hostway server and what happens, the connection to the web is down. So instead spent the early morning listening to Ant and Hefner while burning the rest of the glossary's. Then an 8.30 leave for the Liverpool NHS Archives Committee Freedom of Information Act gig up at Senate House at the University. Not a bad gig. Learnt the University of Liverpool is 100 today, happy birthday.... Some good swag to come away with (will copy it for you Ken). On the way home I ended up following a moped and a sunbed delivery van. The picture on the sunbed van reminded me of one of those Breville sandwich toasters (so that's how the unhealthy orange tan is applied) and I got more than a little scared when the moped peeled off from the van and drove round behind me. Even worse when I noticed he had a T-shirt identifying as part of the tan gang. Were they going to forcibly tan me? It must be a new variation on road rage and stabbing people with a screwdriver or beating them about the head with a baseball bat. No what you need to do is tan them and develop any associated dermatological complaints....

Permalinks

The recent change in decor round this blog, as well as having led me to impersonate flyboy has also given me grief with various other bits and pieces. Today it was permalinks. Oooops I'd screwed them up. Not anymore, so once more we're on the straight and narrow, the path to ..... oh, dear I'm sounding like I should have been at the General Synod, except I'd have applauded Peter Tatchell.

Brown Water Next Stop

Boiler started giving us grief again. But I've learned a thing or two in our boiler adventures over the last year and threatened it in no uncertain terms. Must have worked because everything is rolling now and hot water (will it be brown) is due soon.

Fossil Fuel

Liverpool NHS Trusts Archive Committee today, and it's them who are doing tomorrow's FOI gig at Liverpool University. A gentle committee and pleasant to see people. A nice way to spend an afternoon. FTP seems to have gone OK'ish more tomorrow early doors.

Athens IX

Spoke to Emma this morning, it's a far more civilised way of asking about an Athens problem than the LIHNN list. She's gonna investigate but thinks the notification may have gone to Colin. Anyway I am confident it'll be sorted and we'll get the notifications in the future.

Let the FTP Begin

The great ftp of Cairs up to the internet server has begun. Need to talk to Stevie P. Then need to let Alan form Cairs know we're ready for him to do his techie best and we should be away and webbed up proper. Proper job of strings and wires at this stage, relying on Stevie P's goodwill. Thankfully I think he views us as a bunch of freaks to be amused by. Fine by me.

Midsummer Murders

John Nettles you are mucking up my viewing schedule with all the stiffs you bring with you. A few ratings problems and ITV move things around without a by or leave....

Bacchus a Friend Indeed

Time to open a bottle of wine and worry about the plumbing later.... even better when Sainsbury's bought it for me.... well Monst because they sent her a free voucher for a type of wine she don't like.... and jolly nice it is too.

Brown Tapwater

Cal is in the bath, and apart from being sweaty he really wasn't that filthy which means we are being delivered brown tapwater. I've had a quick scoot round the web to see if this is a warning that the plumbing is on strike, or has leprosy or some such problem to no avail. So if you are a plumber and it does mean something more significant than United Utilities haven't cleaned the water properly, let me know. Cheers.

Storing e-text for centuries

An article from the Economist noted by the Rogue Librarian. A good place if shoes are your thing. Maybe less relevant now that purchasing or the 'House of Shoe Fetish' as I prefered to know it have moved out of Hammy House. In the meanwhile powering up the feedreader. Why have I waited so long to get this sorted out in my head? Nothing like being stoopid I guess....

Tooled Up

So at Beeston Castle we happened on a family day, the English monarchy explained in song, silly verse and mime, a puppet show that had kids suggesting witches are not a good thing, the castle itself and we came away with enough wooden shields and swords to start the Wars of the Roses the remake. A good trip it must be said. However this was not enough, we came back via Bunbury Mill which I see has it's own Wikipedia entry. Cal enjoyed playing with the machinery and watching the waterwheel go round.

RSS

At last I get round to playing with this with Feedreader. In the meanwhile we forgo the constitutional swim today in favour a trip to Beeston Castle, a place taken by a rediculously small number of Royalists during the civil war. Anyway more information on castles generally can be found at Castlexplorer.

Coffee, Radio and a Book

My version of 'A Skull, A Suitcase and a Long Red Bottle of Wine', well at least at this time of the morning. Looks like the weather is set fair. According to the news there is a change in the lyric to the Goerge Best song, 'Georgie Best Superstar, wears frilly knickers and he wears a bra' (the original version for those of you not familiar with 70's stupid football songs to the more accurate (well I assume more accurate) 'Georgie Best Superstar, drinking again and gets arrested in a bar'. It's all a bit of a shame really. Maybe it's my age but I still have a load of residual affection for the bloke. Mind you I had affection for Ollie Reid too.... Meanwhile the Blair and misuse of intelligence rumbles on. To be completely honest it suprises me that they are worried about the accuracy of the intelligence, even an innocent like me knows that intelligence in this sense is the biggest oxymoron going. Even Hans Blix is getting in on the act. Still good news if you're a Corncrake.
