Internal Debates

Cal drags me to the dreadful Fantastic 4 and the Rise of the Silver Surfer. His type of movie, Monst's excuse for not being there is that she is sleeping having worked last night. Lucky cow! We go bowling afterwards and I trounce the boy!

Drop Monst at work and repair home via Ols Swan's Monster Big Tesco's. This on the basis I was expecting monster big beer selection, I was disappointed but bumped into Helen along the way. Nice to see her.

Back and Cal plays the Fifa 04 we grabbed at Morrison's earlier dead cheap (its so out of date). Brings the aforementioned internal dilemmas. Who's gonna be the Arsenal. I defer to the boy. He trounces Spurs (with a little help - they go two up and I can't bring myself to see them win so three quick own goals later and things are sorted!) and genuinly beats Reading. Daft!

Visiting the Bish

Those that know me even in the slightest realise that I don't really do the deity thing, I didn't do it before spending 3 years in Ulster but the experience of life in a place where my first name led to certain assumptions about the faith I may follow kinda hardened the lack of belief. Less of a problem on a day to day basis but it could get hairy if I was in the same pub on raft race day as a number of marching bands and someone called my name. We'd then go through the whole rigmarole of incorrect assumption followed by panic as an English accent came out of my mouth when I ordered a beer. Eventually one brave representative of those that love orange would ask what religion I was and then enquire on the atheist response if that would be a Catholic or Protestant one? Surprisingly though given this as a background I actually enjoy visiting places of worship. Not to mock, I'm more than happy if others want to mutter the odd prayer, chant the odd chant or whatever their faith dictates, but to look at the way the faithful represent themselves. So today when we did the Corporate Induction at the Anglican Cathedral it was nice to wander round. Sure I mocked the book on 'The Organs of the Cathedral' but I have a rep to maintain! Nice touch was the 12.00 prayer. A still place and nice to see the place in action. I have to confess though I find the other Cathedral (and particularly the car park beneath it) a more spiritual venue. Yes the Anglicans do things with impressive size and thats impressive in its way, and the place has that special brand of Anglican hush, but it's not as intimate as the Wigwam. Still what do I know!

Induction went fine I think. New innovation from Helen and Tracy, drag some stock along. I'm all in favour of this sort of thing, innovation comes from the collective whole of the service. Back at Reggie and some FoI, arrange to visit a geezer up Norf' on Thursday.

Yesterday downloaded the Liverpool Music Tour. Plan on doing the walk at half term. Should be fun.

Footy tonight and I'm thinking of friends up here and elsewhere who are concerned about the result. In the main they are supporting Liverpool and for their sakes I hope it goes their way. Plus it means we can take the pee out of my glory seeking nephew. Christina is in town and Nicola is with her in the pub watching it. Ian will be running out of finger nails etc. Could live without Chorlton on the pundits couch.

Happy May Day. Just don't ask about poles!

He'll starch my shirts and collars but he'll never touch my waistcoat

Visit to see Dave B. was a qualified success. Good folk he's working with, fun time had by all but suspect that his crew suspect what I suspect, I've been given a lemon to do. Still it'll be a learning experience.

Home and it's time to unplumb the washing machine and deposit on the doorstep in preparation for the delivery of the new machine the following day. All goes well until I remoe the cold water pipe and discover the cold water tap don't want to switch off. There's a 'little Dutch Boy, finger in the dyke moment', followed by a reattaching of the offending pipe with the other end shoved in a bucket to cope with the dribble of water that comes out. Not perfect but it does the job and this morning I empty a full bucket of water.

The new machine arrives around lunchtime and has been on since along with the dyer as we catch up with the washing of the week. News is sorted for the day. Footie is listened to as is the Captain Sensible 'Live at the Milky Way' and is mighty fine too. Now just waiting on Arsenal's visit to Anfield in the Cup.... Julie I'm not hopeful!

Death and Starlings

Fiery FredSo it's farewell Fred Trueman, before my time as a player but very much aware of him as a commentator. The only time I ever recall seeing the geezer was at the 1979 Prudential Cup Final (as the World Cup was in those far off days) where as an 11 year old I dragged my old fella and the Axton's as a result of a primary school English exercise to write a business letter. Apologies to the geezer who recieved the handwriting of a drunken spider, I can reveal it to be mine. Barry, Axton senior and frequent user of lines nicked from Arthur Lowe lent me his binoculars and pointed Fiery Fred out in the commentary box.

OK for Nicola here comes the insensitive bit, it's been a day for dealing with death. Having been dragged by Cal to Woolton so he could fetch his new glasses from the opticians I get called over to Lil's to dispose of a dead Starling. Nobody else would pick the poor little thing up (that's enough sympathy from me, I dumped the poor bugger in our bin). It vaguely amuses me that Monst who regularly deals with the odd unfortunate demise of the odd person won't pick the thing up. Also amuses me that Cal who is constantly going through a phase of asking bout death is not allowed to see the dead bird!

Now just waiting on kick off in the World Cup quarter final as gloomy me predicts another dreadful England performance. No I am not wearing a replica shirt before you ask.....

Lazybones

A day of laziness, furl and format the news but apart from that do bugger all except tidy the kitchen. The height of energy expenditure will be taking Monst to work. Cal has been playing the 'Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' game on his Playstation and is struggling with Ogres. He gets upset when they kill him but I kinda like the ogres so I'm rooting for them. Other than that just the delight of listening to Arsenal demolishing Middlesbrough and as this followed Manure's loss at Citeh a good football day all round. Feed the family and drag Monst to work before planning milk pudding cooking sesh to reduce a major milk glut that has developed over the week. Technorati Tags: ; ; ; ;
