I Don't Want to Fall In Love, I Don't to See the Stars Up Above In the Sky

Penalties, always the fucking penalties. Again England go out of a world cup as a result of their inability to score from the spot when the pressure is on. I blame Pizza Hut, there's always the thought of a lucrative ad there. So what have I got left to be negative about? Well let me see..... Transfer a shed load of players as a result. On the positive side I discover by the glorious serendipity that is available to me via web recommendations The Decemberists. I start off with 'Her Majesty the Decemberists' but it all snowballs from there...... Comes via Robyn Hitchcock as I download 'Robyn Sings' and I sup a bottle of Adnams Explorer to deaden the footie dissapointment. Throw some Tiger Trap into the mix too! Death and Starlings

Fiery FredSo it's farewell Fred Trueman, before my time as a player but very much aware of him as a commentator. The only time I ever recall seeing the geezer was at the 1979 Prudential Cup Final (as the World Cup was in those far off days) where as an 11 year old I dragged my old fella and the Axton's as a result of a primary school English exercise to write a business letter. Apologies to the geezer who recieved the handwriting of a drunken spider, I can reveal it to be mine. Barry, Axton senior and frequent user of lines nicked from Arthur Lowe lent me his binoculars and pointed Fiery Fred out in the commentary box.

OK for Nicola here comes the insensitive bit, it's been a day for dealing with death. Having been dragged by Cal to Woolton so he could fetch his new glasses from the opticians I get called over to Lil's to dispose of a dead Starling. Nobody else would pick the poor little thing up (that's enough sympathy from me, I dumped the poor bugger in our bin). It vaguely amuses me that Monst who regularly deals with the odd unfortunate demise of the odd person won't pick the thing up. Also amuses me that Cal who is constantly going through a phase of asking bout death is not allowed to see the dead bird!

Now just waiting on kick off in the World Cup quarter final as gloomy me predicts another dreadful England performance. No I am not wearing a replica shirt before you ask.....

Cradle of Filth

So today has been a day of news and waiting to take Cal to Aaron's. Ring Paula, mother of Aaron and arrange to take the boy round at 2.00 pm. Good news for me because that'll give me time to get the three piece suite out onto the drive. Lest you think this is some bizarre gardening ploy to create an outside room it is in fact a response to the news that the coos are dead and the new three piece suite will arrive tomorrow. Add to that the fact that Knowsley's version of Bulky Bob is Puny Pete and they won't pick up the old suite until the 5th July and the explanation is there. If we're lucky some bugger'll nick it from the drive. To that end I won't park on the drive until the thing's gone and thus ensure it can be seen!

Disaster strikes, Paula is not in at 2.00, not answering her phone, but she is in as I return at 3.00. Cal has a couple of hours fun and I regret it as I get to see the first half of the England match. On pocking him up at half time I discover he has had his face painted, less in the flag of St George but the splodge of St Jude. Home and relief as England score is tempered by the fact that I'm arguing withn the boy over homework.

Portugal and the Netherlands provide filthy entertainment later........

Meanwhile I drop down the Fantasy League...... Technorati Tags: , , , , , , ,

A bit of an antidote to England in the world cup.....

It's Tough at the Top

Well I wasn't there long and Christina has gone top of the league now. The league within the league hots up. Friday Can't remember much of it, remember writing a reference (not my fave task on the planet). Remember arriving home, cooked something for the family, crawled into bed and slept. Did a load of sleepin because I didn't wake up until this morning. Saturday Up and Blink away until the boy wakes up and then I drag him off first to a cash point and then back home (too early for the Barbers). Watch an episode of Scooby Doo and then back to Guiseppe's where we both receive devils haircuts and indulge in inane barber conversations. It's the law, you have too. This by the way is a result of Bella who rides Shotgun with Gary Cal's taxi driver commenting to Monst that Cal is due a haircut. Mind you last time I was around her during a conversation it was the shotgun riders convention at the school where they were interested in an Art club for the potential naked models. Back home finish the news bits I'd missed, format it and back to Woolton because Cal has an appointment at the Opticians. I have an appointment at the post office, to post two parcels for Monst. She takes Cal to his appointment leaving me as the idiot taking the parcels that she has wrapped up with elastoplast and the sellotape deficit of the developing world into the post office. I can see all the old dears looking at the parcels and their thoughts, hopeless bloke when it comes to wrapping things. I want to yell, it wasn't me, I'm just the mug posting the things. Anyway they are despatched to the Isle of Man and Scotland according to their addresses, one to Helen and one to Kitty. Shop at Sainsbury's in preparation for the cooking of the quiche. This forms tea tonight for Monst and myself, Cal is fast asleep and we end up asking Lil to sit in with him while I take Monst to work. On return I find him awake so I feed him and we watch the footie, nice bonding sesh....... Technorati Tags: , , , ,

More By Luck Than Judgement Here Am I

Er.... I'd love to claim some sort of superior knowledge but I can't and as I figure it'll only be for today I'm gonna celebrate the fact that AFC Two 'opes are top of the league. Kick off the day with two days worth of news. Network connection seems to be slow at work and it had an impact yesterday with Blinklist and Blogger. The Furl account has returned but Blinklist gives us a smoother work flow.

RSS Training
Mindmap some training that I'll be doing for Shan, send her a copy as a starter for five. Be interested in her feedback. Still needs some work round the repurposing. Technorati Tags: , , , , ,

Tony Bastable V John Noakes

Waste half a day having to pick Cal up from Kirkby and having to transport him to the dental hospital to visit the dentist - it's a long story regarding the why's and wherefore's of his dentist being there, most of it involves the status conferred on him by his speech problems. Either way it's a pig for me every time he has an appointment because I have to trip to the other end of the city, get him out of school (a process which seems to take forever) and run the gauntlet of a pissed of Monst who has travelled into town to meet us, usually having benefitted from very little sleep having worked the night before. And so it is today, reach the school dead on time (having visited Maryland Street on the way to the school to drop off some boxes admittedly), take 10 minutes to get back on the road and arrive to find a hostile Monst because he has no time before the appointment at 3.30. Rest of the day, sorting some barcoding, some cataloguing etc. Usual stuff. Home via the Eagle and Child (as it is today) where we eat, pub grub at its most average. Cal goes to Beavers and I clean the living room in preparation for the England match. Go and fetch Cal who is Beaver of the week and has a trophy that looks to me like some sort of urn, maybe there's a sprinkling of dessicated Baden-Powell hidden deep within. So it reaches half time, my german defender plays a blinder and gains points earlier in the day, England are 1-0 up and the clean sheet is the important bit for me so hope they keep it up for the second half. Just as well really, slipped to third in the league, still trailing Ken and Christina is breathing down my neck, meanwhile Christina's dad was top of the league last night. Cracking goal for Joe Cole but Michael Owen looks to be badly hurt. Bring on Theo Walcott I say. Post match need to head to Asda.... deep joy, will the excitement never cease.... Which reminds me, big shout out for Coutts who we began using this year as a bookseller. More than a bit impressed so far...... Technorati Tags: , , , , , , ,

Come on You Sons of the Desert

Feel like I am becoming the Big C, a position that will amuse those that work with me mightily. Go and chat to a bunch of information governance folk about the C word (as a favour to Tony from MIAA who always makes me laugh - nice geezer), come up with dire warnings about the C word for everyone else, tell our lot it's all a load of bollocks, phoned by Michael with a question about it. Speak to the geezer at Hill Dicks who rattled my cage too. C may be the heavenly option but it drives me nuts. Meanwhile my professional body is sting people for ill octopus a pop for their reaction, impressed, er..... no. I even speak to the local Mr Risk and raise the issue as a risk, now have to fill out a risk log.......doh! FoI raises its ugly head with an email from Jim asking me to have a polite word with someone. I have more than a few polite words and the matter resolves itself. Deep joy. Another day dealing with a Michael Portillo lookie likey...... Introduce Tracy to the wonders of Blinklist and news is away. Dunno what the hell else I did today, other than write a reference for Nicola for library school that wasn't nearly as good as she deserves. Meanwhile Tunisia do me proud by scoring..... good for my league position given the pack around me..... Argue with Cal over bed time, not impressed with me.... Technorati Tags: , , , , , ,

Smurfs Win Knobbly Knee Contests

Saturday Day 2 of Blinklist, looks like a change of work flow is gonna be needed. On the plus side should speed up some of the prep work for the e-mail version. Head to the No Mercy, Monst after brown paper and processing her Disney snaps. Have a pizza for lunch and then head over to the Grange at Gateacre to take Cal to Dean's party. Spend the time he is at the party sorting food for the evening as we slap some steaks on the barbecue. Works out well then Monst heads to work. Not perhaps the most exciting of days! Sunday Fetch Monst from work, feed her, Cal remains asleep throughout the whole gig, I feel drained so as soon as Monst hits her pit I go and crash in Cal's bed for a couple of hours. Most unusual for me, feel better for it. Rehit the Blinklist stuff and get news ready to roll for the morning. Phone home on the Sunday constitutional, feel knackered. Waiting on Monst calling. The 2Bs beckon. On the Fantasy Leage front, remain in second place behind Ken with Christina breating down my neck, suspect tomorrow will see me lose places, a bad game for Spain would suit me! Furl Where Art Thow?

The Furl account goes AWOL, bugger, bugger, bugger. Stuffed, really stuffed without it. Send them a mail to ask what's up. Day as follows...... AM - Reggie - Pull together the commisioning CAS stuff and chat with Joe. Bugger off to PCT meeting in the Land of Manc. PM - Reggie, piddle about trying to solve the missing furl issue, feel like I have a six inch Tracy on my shoulder as I deal with some issues that involve the 'c' word. Must remember to listen to my inner Tracy more often....... Home, listen to the first half of the footy along the way. Discover tonight that Ken is topping the Fantasy league and I'm sat in second place. Technorati Tags: , , , , , , , ,
