Squirrels 'n' Stuff

Morning and I'm later than planned, leave the house and head to Reggie. Carry on with preparation for RSS training I'm doing next week. Complete my lesson plan much to my own amazement. Fetch coffee from the Meeting Place, Tracy arrives and we shift boxes. Actually get amused by the process.

Chase people at the SHA and don't connect. Write some crib sheets, amend my background get your shit together doc for the RSS stuff. Weather is hot and sultry still, Air Con remains off, typical isn't it in winter the heating don't work, in summer the air con is on the blink. Receiving much appreciated critical reading of the stuff for the RSS sesh' from Nicola. Top stuff.

Monst calls, can I flee early, meet her at the bombed out church and pick the boy up from school. She wants to walk her boots in and as this is the last day of nice weather fancies a trip to Freshfields to visit the Squirrels and the beach. Plays the emotional blackmail card of the family never does anything together, more importantly gives me a chance to walk in my boots which are actually remarkable comfortable. Buy squirrel food and are warned we aren't likely to see any of the little red critters (presumably because they've donned bikini's, shades and trunks and headed down to the beach), then we see about five of the little buggers later in the day as the day cools down. Ice cream is partaken of from the van. Walk is pleasant and the beach amuses me as it shows acres of lillywhite flesh turning to pink on display. Only the Brits, eh! No knotted hankies to my dissapointment.

Monst treats us to dinner at the Italian Kitchen, Cal makes his own pizza, I opt for lamb in moroccan spices with cous cous and Monst goes with some Veal. I eat the veal because Monst is a little uncertain when it arrives, the bit of lamb I did eat was great, the cous cous lovely and the veal was good for me too. Monst enjoyed my meal which was good as I enjoyed hers and the bits of Cal's pizza I rescued!

Home quick blog and a few work things to sort. That'll teach me to leave early.

'C' word guidance out today, bits useful but overall marginally unimpressed as it could indicate the way we should go. Still knowing me I'd whinge if I was told that it wasn't the right way to go whichever way it went. So proabably the guidance is right anyway.

Who Paints Rainbows on the Bubbles?

Sometimes I do the most stoopid of things, today's example is the way I've talked us into having to write a risk register. I called the PCT's Mr Risk with one risk and now apparently I have many more, all of this delivered by the mate of Mr Risk, Mr Problem. I do get my revenge, I threaten him with coffee and deliver him tea. Deep joy, all this risk it makes my head hurt to think about it. As I remember it the Risk Log was always one of my least favourite bits of Ponce 2. I also learn a bit about other people in the PCTs perception of me (no Ken not the truth bit, or the freaky bit - those I handle as normal) which scares me a little, they clearly don't come here regularly! I also learn a bit about the history of a container of mustard gas in the city...... eeeek!

Marie calls and St Helen's collection of circulars is due, I'm five boxes short of the Health Promotion Library all being here and I dunno where we'll stuff, stuff. Usual policy, worry about it when it happens (now you see why the concerns about the risk thing).

Cal meanwhile has been to see the community paediatrician and we've been told about this marvelous cure all, multi-vitamins!!! I didn't catch what it was meant to cure, alopecia or something. If this is vague it's because it was an odd conversation with Monst that revealed this information. If it sounds dismissive it'll be because I'm always dubious about claims for multi-vitamins.

Throughout the day I've been hacked off at nothing in particular and as usual the crew round here succeed in cheering me up. Add to that the irony of plugging myself into the Magic Mushroom Band as I catalogue some stuff about drug abuse. Much relief that my sense of the rediculous is intact.

Best news of the day though is we now have another qualified librarian on the staff. Christina has passed her postgrad diploma. Top news, but she can't have a pay rise! Also Frances over at Arrowe has passed. Good news all round then.

With my antelope cheek and my raven's eye

Day spent on FoI work. I scream along AM. Despair by lunchtime, call Jim. Sort myself out, dig in for the afternoon. Bring more home with me and decide I've had enough during the day. Tempted to reach for the bottle of Bush. Beryl calls with a query, get her to send it to Tracy, yell out a route to an answer and Tracy fills in the gaps. I'm impressed given the instructions were telegraphic to say the least.

PM Marie calls in search of the circular that ushered in the Safe Haven Policy. I'd offer her a link to George but reckon it'd be a waste of breath. Thakfully Tobias' book on 'Information Governance Toolkit' comes to the rescue. Simple lateral search involving an index and references. Marie and I mutter dark things about youngsters and not looking in hard copy. I'm feeling like an old lag and I've hardly got any time in (14 years last count). The enquiries are a bit of light relief. 'Nother thing sorted for the M inquiry.

Home, feed the family and take Monst to work. Put Cal to bed and sit in front of 'Life on Mars'. Decide I've had enough of reading other peoples e-mails right now.

Ken has a pointer to whichbook.net. I play with it and it recommends me at least one book which I know and love. Handy little tool and I love the link to local public libraries. Pity I don't use the things. Top stuff.

Scream!
