Lost in the Garden of Earthly Delights

Monday - Just Another Manic One As a Result of Sleeping With Prince

Much of the day is spent preparing and dispatching amended proofs to Ken at Printing.com. We arrive at a mutally punctuated guide with much assistance from Suzanne and Mo who've been good to work with on this thing. At least someone kept me from having the screaming ab dabs.

Reminders from Shan about Tuesday and my impending trip to Oldham. Another 'RSS and Blogging for CAS' gig. Print out the goodies and use the extremely difficult to handle thermal binder.

News is a pig because I was a lazy bastard all weekend. Shame on me. Home, feed Monst in a hurry, get her to work, collapse in a heap....

Tuesday

Up at an outlandish hour which is good news because it gives me the opportuity to transfer 'Carrie's War' to the Archos and get on top of the news. Big question for the day is where the fuck is Oldham. Thing is I know I've been through it before and know there are looming Pennines but I can't place it. Tracy comes to the rescue with timings etc. News and meaningful stuff is done before a 10:30'ish exit. I want time to check out what works on the computers at the other end.

If your doing training, do it at the gaff of the family Addison. Seriously, you get a good welcome, choice of teas, choice of coffee and fun conversation thrown in. Blinklist fell over which is a shame because people could tell how much I love the thing. Think they got the message that it is a good thing. Blogger was blocked as Adult but Wordpress to the rescue. Lucy came away with a cunning plan to use My Update so a cool day all round and unusually I had more people arrive than were expected. Kinda fun. The other thing is I got to F (Fat Lenny) on an A-Z listen to the collected works of Heavenly.

Home, feed myself, Monst in from dropping the boy at Beavers. Pick him up and drag Monst to work. The boy wants her to walk, I recon it's about a 3 hour walk from home or a 21 minute drive! No contest. Back at home wash the boy's hair, put him to bed, record 'Shoebox Zoo' and plan on settleing down with 'Life on Mars'.

Of The Puritan Desciples of the Minions of Doom

Much as I whinge about them, I know my Minions of Doom in the PCT (The IT Department) are positively pussycats compared with their brethren elsewhere. So it is I was off to Merseycare and Mossley Hill today to do an RSS sesh for a select few local library folk, principally for Bernie and Cath with a ragtag mob along. I arranged to pick Steve up from the Wimmins (local library spelling before you correct me) and then on to the location of the Space 1999 corridor. Prior to this I am reminded how much the LDB are to be trusted as I locate thanks to our Comms leads a training sesh that they were gonna alert me to but hadn't. Do I trust the booking is the question? Also pull together a potential bid for some money for marketing materials.

I wanna be early to check out the IT situation. Thank non-existent deities I was. We spring Blinklist from the shackles of their version of Nonsense, this place is banned under the heading of 'Entertainment' (when? Nobody told me!). Furl is a big no-no but I expected that. Out of 4 laptops we manage to raise from the dead 2 machines. Not an ideal environment. Tracy and Helen come and give me more moral support than I expect they realise. On the positive side the crew is good and there are some lively and sensible discussions about use which is really what I want the sessions to prompt. In fact probably the best sesh I've done in terms of people coming to terms with possible uses of the technology for themselves. It helped that Bernie and Cath have definite plans. It goes better than it should then.

Drop Steve back at the Wimmins and dash for home. Monst and the boy are off watching 'Arthur and the Invisibles' and I need to hoover like mad and tidy up at home (I've been told!) No sooner am I in the door and the hoovering is sorted and blow me but the phone goes and off to Faz I head to pick them up. Grab some food from a chippie on the way and then get a call from home that the Old Fella wishes to test his Skype later. At that point I'm in the middle of the 70's fest that is the soundtrack to 'Life on Mars'. I then hang around waiting for a call for a while. Glad to climb back into the music to be honest. Chill, blog, bed beckons shortly.

Jack Kerouac is Out in the Back

Leave Fade at 10:00 'cos I don't want to be late up Norf. Carlisle gig is fun (another RSS/Blogging gig for Shan), nice folk with a good buzz of ideas about how to exploit the stuff I point them in the direction of. Blinklist seems to go down well. Nice venue, any health service gaff with a view of bullocks can't be bad. Dunno why we don't have more meetings up this far, it's only a coupla hours up the road. Cool beginnings of a team blog up here too (Library and Web Services). Drive up is a little rain bound but I listen to 'Tommy' loud and proud and the views are good, way back and Yo La Tengo are on the job. Even see some sun.

Home and greeted by a hungry cat, she ain't alone as I feed myself too. Couple of glasses of red, little bit of work, bit of shite TV. Chat to Kitty who tells me news of ill health in Scotland (Sharon's Aunt Margaret). Text Monst with the latest. Recieve news from Delhi, they've scooted round New Delhi today. Cal has kipped and that's as much as I know. Lots of pics promised though!

Ear, Ear

So the Health Library world of the UK has gathered in the open cast cemetry that is Eastbourne, a place that still feels it has to live down the visit of one Vincent Van Gough as a holiday maker. Conequently the average age of the population for the few days the library folk are in town will plummet, reports that funeral directors were seen leaving town hands clasped to brows and the thought of the potential loss in trade for a few days are of course completely spurious.

Still though I am not there Tom Roper has provided a couple of Technorati tags to facilitate the identification of blogposts HLG2006 and HLGEastbourne2006 which should prove useful and have already provided me with some grey literature and another seem of stuff to mine. Top stuff.

Morning was last minute touches to the presentaltion, more crib sheets draft of the useless powerpoint, which I print and leave at Reggie. Seem to be rediculously nervous about this session.

To yesterday, with a setback on the powerpoint front (stoopid me having warned Sally about the perils of USB ports being disabled and the need for presentations to be carried on a variety of media, did I listen to myself, did I 'eck as like), it seemed at least from the happy sheets to have gone OK. Things need tweaking for the next one but overall I think the 'RSS for CAS' thing is a flyer.

Made parents evening by the skin of my teeth (actually a minute late but Monst hadn't gone in at that stage because teachers like GPs and Dentists always run behind on their appointments). Experience the Les Dawson mouthing words experience, all it needed was for Linda to cup her boob and purse her lips and the job would have been complete. Leave there and head to 'The Rocking Horse' at Aintree for food. A passable if not wildly exciing meal and an hour or so in the play barn for Cal before we take Monst to work. Home and I collapse.
