And Knee-jerk Negativity Just Never Got Me Through

Bit of a blur yesterday....

Virtual Reference Desk

Announced to the library world it certainly had an impact on visits to the site, other than Michael from Ormskirk nobody said hello though!

More locally we hit an IT hitch. The thing works with our permission set, but not across the way in WFAS or upstairs in Clinical Governance. I call the Grand Imperial Wizard of the Nonsense Service locally. We chat, it works for him but not on his friendly neighbourhood we don't touch this but keep it here for decoration machine. I've piqued Graeme's interest, he's looking into it. Er... and all this subverts the way we should operate, which pleases me (despite the piss take of the Nonsense role he's another one of the good guys who'll deal with me direct).

Result is that you can see the thing in Wigan, Salford, can't use it at Central Mancy Trust because meebo is banned and you can't use the thing 20 yards outside the library in Reggie. Freaky!

Invites, Witter, and Mexican Food

Get an invite to visit Pat Jones today, yesterday (make whatever sense of that you like) at the Liverpool Film Studios. Not as exciting as making an epic remake of 'Conan the Librarian' (although ask me to cast it and Wigbol Dave is a shoe-in for the lead role) but something to do with a desire to effectively use the Chief Nursing Officer's Bulletin's by jazzing them up a little with some local stuff too. What Pat and Helen don't know is that I plan to drag Helen along because I plan on Helen looking after this bit of current awareness. I'm also flattered that as a service we get described as a Can Do service (think to be honest this translates as a service that don't say no but what the heck lets just focus on the positive!)

Conclusion of the day is a demand from Cal to make him some unspecified Mexican food. Cook some sort of bastard burrito type things without a huge amount of spices, create salsa's, fry some fresh tortilla chips to have with guacamole as a starter and make a Mexican Chocolate pud. Not bad for an off the cuff meal pulled together at the last minute.

Dinner concluded I read a little of 'A tale etched in blood and hard back pencil' the Chris Brookmyre from Christmas that I haven't had a real chance to settle down with. Enjoy a couple of chapters and exhausted fall asleep. Wake an hour or two later and curse myself because I'm now awake. Doze off in front of the TV.

The Waking Dream... Update on Today So Far

Wake good and early and relatively refreshed. Not today for me the mistake of thinking it was Decemeber (like yesterday). Usual news run, wash up, into work good and early. Need to prepare for a meeting with Dave B. this afternoon about a VLE learning object the LDB want me to do. I've done fuck all planning or reading about it thus far. No change there then. Right I'm away for coffee having fully livened myself up to the sound of the Psychedelic Furs.

Kitchen Bondage Part II

Remains of Crimble Eve

OK so after Alan and Nikki (Nicci? Nicky?) head off to their Crimble retreat to Kendal and after Cal heads to bed I begin the big wrap. It actually goes better than expected helped along by the delights of Fanny Craddock preparing for Christmas (it has kitsch irony value and I'm sure that I have memories of dodgy innuendo from my Grandfather about Fanny and Johnnie) followed by the excellent 'Fear of Fanny'. I also kinda enjoy the incongruity of watching the 'World at War' as I do the last of the wrapping I'm doing for the day. By 11:30 I'm knackered and can't face any more and head to bed.

Things to remember, the Moseley book I'm reading has more irony in it than it knows.

Crimble Day

Still have Monst's pressies to wrap and the last of Cal's. Rise at 5.00 to complete it before the boy is up. Build the Scalextric rather than wrap it. Impressed that it goes together simply. Ring Monst and let her know all is ready (I lie, I haven't given the cooking schedule a thought) and begin to look forward to the rest of the day. Beer is cold for later, wine is chilled so all is fine. Just need to make a coffee, keep Cal upstairs when he wakes until Monst arrives home from work. The plus side is that the hospital are providing taxis so I don't need to dash up there.

So I now work out that the goose will take 4 hours to cook and I prepare to shove things up it's backside and use the Cradock advice to pretend it's someone I dislike as I prick it. See yesterday's wrapping viewing has come in useful! So all I need now is an eating time from Monst to work with.

To look forward to later, 'A Dysfunctional Success' and 'A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil' a book advertised with the quote from Time Out as 'The kind of thing Agatha Christie might have written if she'd have been off her tits on manky crack' - a good enough recommendation for me! Some music (Simple Kid II and Ole Tarantula) and the surprises from Monst.
