Mr. Wilson

Finally got round to listening to an mp3 from Wilson I'd downloaded a week or so ago. Very dubby, wasn't expecting that need to test some more I think. On the Ant front it's kinda Field Mice like without me wanting to yell out go on get angry. Much as I like the field Mice and they always made me feel they were holding something back. Anyway Cal asleep, Monst at work so I can rock the housewith my tunes.

LA Superbowl

Er..in Warrington for a location (LA presumably is seen as an exotic bowling type location to the respectable burghers of Warrington) , Cal and I went bowling again, I won the first game he won the second. He admitedly uses one of those ramp jobbies that helps him hurl the bowling ball down and a reasonable speed (however he did have a couple of attempts without the device which travelled down the lane at a pace that would be slow for yer average snail). Then foolish move, I decided that it'd be a good idea to buy a plane and go to the park to fly the thing, this necessitated a trip to Toys-R-Us, Cal had other ideas so one lego Lofty later he's content and I'm less exercised.

Hello

Hobgoblin down need to go to the shop.

Shocking Stockings

Started digitization of NHS circs today with a demo for Leanne at which point the computer fell apart, but soon sorted and I bring you news from HMC(48)23 'A special coupon concession for stockings for certain categories of nurse is detailed in Part I Section B of the Board of Trade Circular.' I don't know if I should share this with you the circular is marked Confidential. Wonder if the Rapidly Diminishing Ken Clare is entitled to any? Anyway this is now digitized and will be coming to a Fade site near you soon!

Antpop

Picked up Ant's 'Floating on a Breeze' at lunchtime in a frankly roasting Liverpool. Just prior to me throwing my hands up in disgust at outlooks inability to forward a mail bumped into Ken in the corridoor carrying more beer than our no-alcohol in the building policy would allow, Ken on his way to Ian's leaving do me on way back from a chat with George. Quick conversation on state of the intranet... and need to arrange a date for a pint at the Willowbank for a proper chat once I've asked permission from Monst.

No Free Lunch

At last the medics are begining to realise the danger of their links with drug companies No Free Lunch fights back and they've even got an Editorial and article in today's BMJ. This is what we want a good bit of corporate governance says the man who to fight the drug reps at Propel events takes chocolates along to entice people to the library stand.

Swagger

In a state of much amazement I came across 'Swagger' by Flogging Molly in the prole shop in Speke. So here I sit melting but rocking to the sounds of Dave King and co. More cool cataloguing music to rock the library with. On the first listen through. Had to buy it on sight 'cos I doubt I'd be able to catch it other than online. If anyone fancies a copy of 'Drunken Lullabies' you'll find a copy in the prole shop in Speke still.....

Aaaaaaaargh!

Fed up with poxy Frontpage..... nuff said. Positive side get to road test some of the e-groups stuff in Aditus so might be a blast in the morning sorting that stuff out. Lunch good, beer excellent as was the company. Always a delight to see Shan. PCT Librarian's meeting appears to be coming together too.

Early Kick Off

Shan's in today, cool, a good excuse for fun chat, a pint at lunch and all those things that make librarianship fun. Leanne's first exposure to Marie Ford yesterday and now hot on the heels of that experience Shan. Marie is stressed about accreditation, don't blame her I was. Had a word in Liz's shell like about it. She'll be fine but she won't know that til afterwards and no matter what we tell her ain't going to solve the anxiety until after the event. Which remionds me must forward Adam's comments on our draft report to Linda.

Hats off to Ask a Librarian for the following 'We rang the Rangers Football Club customer service information line on 0870 600 1972, and they told us that the nickname "Teddy Bears" comes from Glasgow slang. Glasgow Rangers was shortened to "Gers", which rhymes with "bears", which eventually evolved into "Teddy Bears".' Angela Suter who answered it you are a star and why didn't I think of that. No wonder I reckon that planet Glasgow can be a pretty odd place, although it is one I'm growing to love with repeated visits to the place. Anyway as a result I'm sat listening to the Delgados, a nice start to the day.

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine

Oh how they made me laugh, swear, sing along in inappropriate places, an instant reminder of life in Tooting, just off the Amen Corner in Boscombe Road, for your delight from Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine.... a band who painted a picture of a Britain and a world anaesthetised and brutalised; a world where the streets teemed with the addled, the amoral and the addicted. Cheap'n'Cheesy I've lost a truly special friend I swear I'll never drink again I'd like to talk to you alone If I could walk I'd walk you home I'd like to kiss you in the street But that's so cheesy and so cheap And so they banned me from the bar I've got no family for my family car That I've been using a s a bed And when the battery is dead I could cry myself to sleep But that's so cheesy and so cheap Am I a man? Am I a mouse? Who wears the trousers in this house? I am the rat that killed your cat Who painted then destroyed your flat You slapped me And I slapped you black And blue And that's so cheesy and so cheap

FOI

Er... it's happened hit the serious FOI Blackstone commentary, never thought I'd see myself engrosed in one of them things, my mother would wet herself if she could see me now. Needed to grab it so I can pass it to George when I'm done... In the meanwhile Captain Sensible provides tonights tunes. Helen and Lonen round for grub. Can't be bad they dragged me some Hobgoblin in, all this and Shan tomorrow as an excuse for a lunchtime pint.....

Educational Psychologist

Cal went to see the educational psychologist today, apparently he did all that was asked of him and then the dreaded question, so what do you want the LEA to do about his speech and language therapy problems. Monst explained a part time place at the speech and language therapy unit would be OK (yer woman rings Steve Redfern and reckons a 20 week deal is on the cards - nice to hear but why not tell us... but if that isn't enough they don't have any further plans). Monst mentions the notion of staff from Cal's school accessing LEA courses and that we are willing to part fund them. This translates as we expect the LEA to fund them (on the bit of paper she is scribbling on) and why should they as the school is in the private sector. So Knowsley LEA read this and I'll explain my position: 1) We are happy as Cal's parents to partner fund places on courses you put on. However we expect some sort of commitment on the part of the LEA and the school as well. We are all partners in the care of Callum so do me the service of behaving as such. 2) Equity is about equal access to services despite location or sector of schooling. If a course of action is deemed relevant in a Knowsley school for a Knowlsey resident it should be available to a Knowsley resident outside of a Knowsley school. 3) Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council entered a tacit contract with me as soon as I paid my council tax, I give them money they deliver the services they provide. So far on all 3 basic premises they are failing me.

16 Administrators and Souvlaki

Yay! Athens subadmins set up for the 8 organisations we've taken responsibility for. Awaiting Marie to come in, which'll be cool. Talk will be of accreditation because St. Helens has its coming up. So far gone and got more tea some Jaffa cakes (some are for tomorrow when Shan's in) it'll be a good gig today and tomorrow. As ever it's nice to see people you like. Been trying to identify why Rangers are nicknamed the Teddy Bears with no success so far. Trouble is all that unionist iconography don't help me in the search. Sod it I'm going to Ask a Librarian?, it'll give those buggers in public libraries something to do.....

Post to Save My Blog

Er... every now and again I'm not the only loopy soul in this blog, occaisionally the blog itself takes a lurch towards the surreal and display in a totally bizarre fashion. When this happens it needs a swift kick, this is that kick, still working on shagging Athens by the way....

Sucker for South

I'm always a sucker for South Liverpool PCT, primarily I think because it's full of people I like plus they aren't people I'd want to sell a pup to. Anyway net result is we sort out their library for them on the basis I know the gold level of service has been recommended and as a matter of principle I say we should stick with the price we quote. May not in fact be the most sensible way to precede but my theoory is play straight with people and they'l play straight with you (well most of the time they will). So South's existing library will be library number two collected for this year.... and we'l be providing rough classification and circulation control for what they keep. It should be a KISS job (Keep It Simple Stupid)....

Icarus...

OK it's about as far as I can remember mythology wise, still sorting shagging Athens out....

Athens

When in Rome and all of that, on and off the network like a whore's drawers trying to sort this one out. So far only Liverpool Social Services have failed (what were the chances of that?) but can't set any sub-administrators or any gubbins like that. Who said life was meant to be simple.....

Networks

Start of a new working week, get in late at around 7.00'ish and can I get on the poxy network, no.... Fixed by the marvelous Stevie P. by 8.30 but in the interim the finance library has been reshelved with a vengance it didn't deserve.

Brakspears Heartache

Morrisons are supposed to stock an organic brew from Brakspears, a brewery redolent of underage drinking, delightful nights, shite nights and so-so nights out with mates at home, of old flames, all those things that mean home to you (or at least me) and the begining of an enduring love affair with beer. So as we needed to nip into Morrison's in Widnes to get some food for tonight I was filled with anticipation, a taste from home was a mere 1 and a bit of shrapnel away. So what happens, none in stock.... next time at Stockton Heath, St Helen's I know where I'm headed... I'm a man on a mission and that mission is to find what was Henley's finest....

Rosie and Jim

In a canal fuelled frenzy (aka we saw some canal boats the other day and Cal enjoyed them) it was a Bank Holiday trip to the Boat Museum in Ellesmere Port. as ever the expedition was planned with military precision (a general air of chaos is a polite description) and we didn't get our shit together til about 11'ish. Zapped down to have some lunch at the chinese buffet Tracy had recommended the other day. Damn too early, so we took the skinheads bowling (is there anyone on this planet other than me with fond memories of Camper Van Beethoven?). Cal won, the swine. Mind you he cheated and used the metal chute like contraption. finished dead on time for lunch and loaded plates at an all you can eat in traditional you foolish people side. It was OK, would have been better in th evening. So stuffed it was a quick trip up the motorway and Cal was in his element, in and out of stables, engine sheds and narrow-boats like a complete loon. He played with the marbles the quoits and enjoyed his canal cruise. Currently he's in the bath playing with his Rosie and Jim spoils. I've been trying to sing the song which is a sound not worth listening to especially as my lyrical prowess is limited to the line "Rosie and Jim" mind you I thought the line hastily invented "she drinks beer, he drinks gin" was truly inspired. Anyway we're seriously toying with a canal, type holiday at some time. Now be warned I watched the Directors Cut of 'Das Boot' last night (cut should have given the guy a clue, great film but it don't half go on), so I have visions of myself in a submariners white cap, mouldy leather jacket, binoculars clasped to my eyes, ducking as the waves break over the conning tower, type thing going on as I navigate a narrow boat (you gotta dream). Mind you the notion of launching torpedo's at unsuspecting mallards..... In the meanwhile the jangly Nick Heyward and 'The Apple Bed' amuse me, as does the thought that I have an alarming amount of Chelsea propoganda in my collection given my gooner nature from both Mr. Heyward and the great Ed Ball. All I can say is stop it.... Mind you it's an interesting periond from Creation it comes from, they seemed to go through a stage of signing former 80's stars round the late 90's.

Bath Night

Turned out like 'Brightwell Nightlife' an in-joke if ever there was one....

Haddock and Chips

Like fishermen yer best blog posts get lost to Jimmi 'God of lost Blog entries' a glaswegian deity who covers pissheads and beggars too, and are always bigger than they were in reality. So it was with a dazzling piece on the beauty of folk music and the value of Eliza Carthy, her Dad Martin and Dick Gaughan. Suffice it to say the album is a thing of rare beauty and Topic Records are fiercely independent as Wychwood Brewery would have it. While on the subject of Wychwood it looks like there may be life in Brakspears yet, and I may have sourced a local shop to get some beer from home.... however it looks like they've dropped my favourite Old, shame, many is the pissed evening I've had on that stuff......

News from the Front Line

Just mowed the laughingly named lawns and the bottom of the garden which was moss city has seen a remarkable comeback from the grass. Don't know what that's all about. Just about to venture into the loft on the lookout for more sheep for the farm and a high chair for Lonen. Help...... In the meanwhile Rangers have won the SPL (boo, hiss.. a standing family joke since Monst's Dad was six foot odd of orange bigot). While on the subject of family jokes for the benefit of the Norwegian side of the family 'Royaume Uni nil points' well according to Monst anyway because I didn't lower myself to watch the thing anyway, but her patient last night insisted on it (all this despite me having chatted with a Eurovision winner in Kimberley Rew).

Sarabande

Sat here plugged into Paul Roland's 'Sarabande', enjoying that bizarre mix of 19th and 18th century tones to his lyrics and psych/goth sounds and remembering seeing the guy play to an audience of about 10 at the Falcon in Camden. Nice bloke too, we drank with the band before the gig and a pleasant time was had by all. Looks like he's now writing new age books on angels and exploring the unexplained. Freaky or what. Cal's playing with his farm downstairs, no doubt inspired by yesterday's shennanigins but I just need a break form it all and some time to myself. So a quick half hour here will have to suffice.
