Day but not Graham

OK so the result was right but the manner of the win leaves me merely with the satisfaction that Arsenal robbed an FA Cup win. Much of the game they defended but won on penalties (a bloody miracle in its own right). Much of the morning spent in town last minute holiday clothes shopping. Monst goes round picking clothes for me, it's like being 8 again and shopping with yer mum following a prolonged bout of shopping for cotton bras. Cal and I hang around during that phase like traditional blokes. Me I spot the plus side of being with Cal, at least people don't think I'm there perving at the undies. Usual brotherhood of the bored blokes in the clothes shops applies. Wry smiles, nods of heads etc. Back home and park myself in front of the cup final. The ref was man of the match. It was that sort of a game. I even feel sorry for the Manure fans on the basis they was robbed. Meanwhile Monst packs. A week away from going and she packs, how sick is that?

Early kick off

5.30 and the big rip continues. News to do, turn on the radio and find the Cup Final uppermost in my mind. I love the build up to the final, even when Asenal aren't involved. It's a very special competition (go see Dave's cup advetures for proof). So onto the news.......

In the Swim

Begin my preparation for tomorrow's Cup Final, Charlie George is on the radio as is the inevitable Terry Neil. Screen the Manc stuff from my head, and memories of the two minute final abound too. The Beeb keep balance but don't expect me too as well. I'm hoping that Arsenal stuff the Mancs........ Warn Monst that her shoppping plans must happen in the morning because the afternoon will see me parked in front of the TV. News is Charlie Geoge's autobiog is out, can see me buying it because I'm a sucker for the fella. Not the most popular bloke in Liverpool I'd imagine. Good news, Cal has swum his first five metres free of a float. Dead chuffed.

Espionage and Hoovering

Pass the Blackberry to IT, post frst suggestion which is stab it with a paperclip. Footle around sorting some FoI stuff. Still no news from the third party. Ring Jim, more for reassurance than anything else. Sort out my latest evil enquiry. Screw up sorting camcorders with Lee. Bugger. Big Bri swings by, wants a private chat, think I've done summat dreadful only to find out that the reality is he wants a favour because he has a target to meet. Easy to say yes, mainly because it's no skin off my nose. Home and I find the place empty. Suspect Helen's been round and the folks have gone out to a play barn, tried to call and sans Blackberry I'm stuffed. Feels odd, don't like the feeling of being out of touch. Then just as I type that, they walk through the door and it turns out they've been to see Aaron and Cal's eaten. Cool means a chance for a ruby for Monst and myself. Desultory rip through the stuff from the car.

Jonny Notpod - A Story of Two Devices

Yesterday a trip to the smoke for a Primary Care RSS CAS meeting. First major outing for the Notpod as the Nomad is increasingly getting known and it performed superbly. If the other device in this tale of joy and woe had performed nearly adequately you'd know by now I am deeply in love with it as a device along with the usual playlist type of thing...... But for once the Blackberry fails and I get stressed, I'm waiting on a mail about an FoI enquiry and nothing was coming through. I plague poor Sally. Journey down was fine, Virgin Pendalino's are fine trains (lordy views on trains whatever next reviews of tractors), and come with a complete crew of Virgin Wombles ensuring the train is clean and no rubbish is anywhere to be seen (maybe we should get some in to sort my office! More of which later in this post). On arrival in the smoke I take the opportunity to head to Paddington to work out where we're stopping next Friday, (eek! we go to Egypt next Saturday and while for the last month I've been preparing and getting ready for the trip physically it still feels mentally like it's ages away!). Check out left luggage and the Heathrow express. Get accosted by a dinosaur in a miniskirt touting Office 2003. Then off to Portland House over at Victoria (very convenent I have a task there later) and the Blackberry rings on the way (that bit worked fine, plagued Shan later trying to find out if a mail I'd sent reached her) and it's Sue but it dies on me on the underground. On arrival I find myself wandering into a building site without a white hard had or high vis vest. Eventually stumble into the gaff after directions from a number of bemused Eastern European builders and then find that the newly christened 'Connecting for Health' are more bemused than the builders a and locating the meeting is a problem. Find everyone eventually and we're moved into a room called 'Prince Charles' which has an internal locking system locking those meeting in the room until they press the release button. This baffles me, is 'Connecting for Health' havin to use odd tactics in its negotiations with suppliers by locking them in a room until they give in? Meeting is good and constructive though and worth the trip. Head off eat, pint in the Jeremy Bentham and pick up some new headphones on Tottenham Court Road. Throughout the trip 'All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye' gets a hammering and stunning it is too. Brookmyre still makes me laugh. Grab a couple of tins of Firebrand Czech Lager at Euston and some scran and train home. Find at home that Terry is round sorting a problem with the bog downstairs (it's leaking). Shattered I just wanna kip. Eventually turn in around 10.00. Blackberry is still stuffed this morning so a call to IT is in order. The mail I was anticipating hasn't arrived so I need to act without it. Need to contact the requestor and plead a little more time. Message left asks for SHSL(95)7 which I translate as FHSL(95)7. I go n search of our CDs of circs because it should sit on a CD. My office as ever is a tip and the whole process is an exercise in industrial archeology. I locate three of the CDs but not the fourth, which Murphy's law dictates is the one I need. Find all sort of other stuff along the way too. Then as I dispair I find the missing CD on Nicola's desk. Great, the circular isn't on it. I check CAIRS and that'll be because we don't stock it! Could have saved myself some effort and a lot of industrial archeology. On the other hand I wouldn't have discovered various other bits and pieces.

Crunchy Little Superman

Wake at what is for me a stoopid hour of the day. Why? Worried about oversleeping and missing my train I guess. Ripping again. Prolonged listen to the Nomad on the way home last night and it is very sweet. Real test comes today. Like already the fact that I'm hefting over 50 albums worth of stuff with me in a device that is around walkman size. Sound quality is superb even with the dodgy earphones that came with it. Need to replace them ASAP. Trip to the smoke again.... feel like I'm spending my life down sarf! Still nice to see the RSS crew. Phoned Ingrid to get her take on thing yesterday. Cool chat, can't help liking her lots, she has a nice outlook on life. If your in Barcelona from tomorrow be afraid, be very afraid, she's there on a Geordie Hen Night, weekend, whatever the timescale is these days. Along the way need to sort an FoI query so that'll be deep joy.

Data to scream at

OK so I extract the circulars, the books from Cairs, it goes suprisingly smoothly and simply. Next stop DB Textworks and the finance library and it's wrecking my head. I can see the records I want. I can't export the fields I want because there are multiple libraries using the one system. Add to that a lack of consistency in the data input and I wanna scream. Worse than that I suspect an answer will occur to me when I'm as far away from the data as it is possible to be. Meanwhile we enter printer hell... one dead, no toner for t'other.

'What to you sounds like a load of trashy old noise, is the work of genius'

Frantic ripping goes on. Nomad is hooked up to some power to get its little body together. Transfer of first 25 albums goes without a hitch. I invest in Notmad and it does exactlly as advertised. Can't hang around 4 hours for a listen so I have a listen while power is applied. Ella Guru christen the device, well what did you expect? Anticipate a relatively large choice of vibes for tomorrow's travelling. News of the hat, well blow me down the hat company had a delivery and my hat wasn't there so they whinged and what do you know it turns up as if by magic. The Mr. Benn clause clearly applies. Ether way it should be here next week they say. Hope it don't take the full ten days because it won't arrive on time so the hat is in a race against time (where have I seen that phrase recently). On the work front the stuff from Gregor at Softlink about the data conversion looks straight forward. Just need to separate my data from Liz's, burn it all to a CD along with the finance library and I'm away. Extremely confident in Gregor he sounds reassuring. So so far the whole experience of Softlink is positive. I guess it's a case of building relationships and so far everyone seems a sweetie. So away we go.

Small is Big

Jim's is smaller than mine, we had a littlest book contest and his 'Little Book of Management Bollocks' won!

Ruby Tuesday

1-2-1 with Jim and FoI to the fore as usual. Good day at the SHA. News on the Nomad, it arrives at Hammy as I'm at the Heath. Can't think of a good reason to head back to Hammy (though Jim offers me the chance, I refuse on the basis the 1-2-1 is kinda important). Still another trip to the Smoke on Thursday will give me a chance to put it through its paces and an early kick off tomorrow will give me an oppotunity to play. On the hat front, increasingly frantic e-mails from me result in no response. It'll probably arrive while I'm on my trip to the smoke during which I plan on locating the hotel we're stopping in in Paddington so we know where we're going on the way to Egypt. Learn I've missed Tracy and Hannah, curses, I call them instead (suspect the reality is I'm better with babies over the phone). Pleasant five minute chat. Cal watches 'Finding Nemo' while pretending to be a Tiger cub. Not got a clue what's to do there.

All Roads Lead to the Fiveways

Yesterday, 8 hours, one car, three library folk, our littlest book and 104 practices..... Competition for users to guess how many practices we could get round. All shameless promo work for the library. Highlights of the adventure, Christina and Nicola amused as I get disturbed by a cleaner on a call of nature. A couple of fun rasta patients. The crew at Upper Parliament Street Medical Centre. Spot the book, we evne have time to make new friends for the library Posted by Hello Lots of friends for the Littlest Book to play with Posted by Hello Another new friend of the library. Pleasant folk make the day special. Posted by Hello Lunch at the Fiveways. Lunch break for the Littlest Book, it wanted a pint of Old Hooky but we explained it as under age! Posted by Hello Two new rules of thumb, open plan centre equals more welcoming staff, posher the practice the less welcoming the folk. Like all rules of thumb there are many notable exceptions. Not much blog I'm knackered and been creating the photoblog for the end of the comp!

Funday Sunday

OK so finally create the mazy, crazy route for North Liverpool PCTs practices (if we get that far tomorrow! 103 practices in a day, it's madness but a good promo gig - we're not allowed in the 104th). You can tell the route was created by a southener reliant on postcodes and the excellent AA Route Planner. No chance to print it here so I'll call Dave and get him to sort it before we pick him up along the way. There is also a quiet satisfaction in taking a stupid rout. The whole thing is stupid so we might as well keep in the spirit of it. Begin tomorrow and 8.30 at Nicola's and then off to pick up Christina. A day spent sorting the news, usually this time of a Sunday I'm formatting it but well ahead today, just need to transfer it to Fade the Blog and I'm away. Bottle of Raglan Sleeve makes the whole thing go with a swing too.
