Summerfest

Suspect it was only a matter of time before I succumbed to a pocket DAB. Cricket as I suspected provided the catalyst and Argos the excuse as I handed notes over for a Bush PSDAB2003 DAB Digital Radio and promptly revelled in the sound of Aggers and co at the test. It must be said that the kitchen's DAB has had hard use since it was bought as a crimbo present a couple of years ago. The crisp sound, the freaky nature of Radio 6 and the fact I can listen to Arsenal without the hiss of Radio 5 all contribute to my abiding love of the thing. Indeed the winter months see me hanging out in the kitchen for that reason. Summer is more awkard because I don't always want to be in the kitchen. Now I have the solution. All the radio leads me to Jim Maxwell's blog. It's one of the features I love about TMS, the guest commentator from the opposition. It's civilised and fun, especially hearing their reactions to the number of cakes donated to TMS. That and the fact that the commentary just rambles along, full of delightful meanders into irrelevance and pointedly focussed moments too. Good stuff. Spend the laziest of days. Sleep, Monst bums a lift home from work, do a little food shopping (fetch beer, last night Nancy Whiskey was praised as a cold cure but it really isn't my drink), read a trashy novel, 'Welsh Fargo' which always makes me laugh. Do nothing about the news until the evening. Discover my shoulder is feeling rough as is my back. Needs sorting by Tuesday. Feed the family and get Monst to work. Blog a little and begin some news work. Pour beer as I do (Sierra Nevada's Summerfest) summery and nice. Top stuff. Only whinge is the bottles are too small. One is never enough..... Cal is off to Owen's birthday party tomorrow. I get four hours to be selfish with my time as a result. Cool, look forward to pottering about doing my thing.

Jangle

A day in which I feel more shattered than in recent times. A day in which I discover that despite the extra space on the shelves, I haven't left enough. A day of The Frames and The Field Mice and moving books. Also a day of playing my new opac and WLSINFO books, adding pretty pics and getting frustrated by the standard of some of the cataloguing. Will revisit and fix later. Monst calls, has a go, rings off. Rings again, bites my ear off again, rings again to tell me she needs to go trainer shopping before work. Me I want sleep. In early to sort the back rooms of the old library. Back home, pick up Mattie, take Mattie to the bus station bugger off to work. Go out at lunchtime to grab a sarnie. Sally and Nicola are kind and patient with me and just let me do my thing.

Nancy Whiskey

Fetch cat fud from Asda and bump into Joe from HR. Nice to see him and we shoot the breeze. Then Manc land to the airport. Not certain which terminal so stop at Terminal 1, find out I should be at 2. Head over there, good time had by all at Eurodisney.

Home, feed them soup. Scoot through the photos, get given some Bushmills Single Malt and 1608. County Antrim's finest..... Even I a non-whiskey drinker like this stuff.

Home

The Gulshan recieves my custom once more on the way home. Bump into Mike Thwaite on the way out of Regatta. He's just back from Greece and was fine until airline food struck him low with a touch of Pythagoras' revenge. Meanwhile IT struggle on with our printer - they had it working at Hammy but no dice at Regatta. Impressed .... Er.... No! Nor am I impressed with the fact I have to chase them to get them to try and sort it. However all day I've been a moody bastard so that hasn't helped.

Meanwhile the staff of Gulshan impress me with knowlegeable cricket chat and details of the footy. Looks like Liverpool have the chance to be Chelski's bogey team bigstyle. Hope they are!

Home and grub. Relax for half an hour and then big hoover action planned.

Fursday

Family are due home tonight, so delights of runnning around the house tidying and Manchester Airport for 10.00 beckon. Boy, I know how to live! It'll be nice to see them. Up to Hammy to meet the boys from MCS who bring down the remains of the rest of our gubbins. I arrive before them and gives me a chance to pick up the litter from the old library floor. Twinge of sadness as I do so. Need to get a pic of the place empty. Plan on tomorrow being my last visit to the old gaff at Hammy. Nice to see some old faces while I was there though.

D-day

4 more crates to go, the shit I left at Hammy arrives tomorrow, must remember to head back up to Hammy for 3.00 tomorrow. Sort carrels so we can welcome the odd visitor. Delight at bumping into Jo who tells me she's pregnant and sorting out the driving thing. Cool. Tracy and Hannah come to visit. Nice to see them both. Work out that she is due back in 8 weeks time. Start to play with Liberty 3 in the absence of training. Needs sorting and the only way to learn is play. Ken's holiday keeps me amused and delighted at the ping from France. Nice one boy!

Stoopid Cat

Katie, the family cat (she's mine I tell you, all mine) is it must be said fairly stupid. If cat food didn't come in packets with idiot humans to open it she'd starve. So tonight she suprises me by catching something, OK it was a moth but the principle applies.

Car Rolling Backwards in Car Park! URGENT

So read the e-mail header and provided popular spectator sport at the Heath once people were happy it wasn't their motor. Felt sorry for the poor geezer stopping it from landing on other cars, looked like hard work. Back to the land of FoI and three requests. All commercial in nature which seems appropriate following the Times story 'Firms abuse information laws to win extra chance of NHS work' today. Deep joy, love them. However highlight is making my first request under the Act. After a list of Parliamentary Private Secretaries (PPS) which the Parliament website usefully fails to supply. I expect an s21 notice back because I know it's in Vacher's but can't get hold of one locally that's recent. On the plus side, some concerns I expressed about a potential release to a lawyer have been confirmed by the lawyers representing us. I'd be smug about it but it was on the basis of empathy that I expressed concern rather than legal knowledge. Does reassure me though. Just need to log the things now. Get to pretend to be Jim at a corporate induction in 40 minutes before reverting to me and then heading back to Regatta (mentally still want to type Hammy). Sounds like a top job done by all over their and learning the phones is going on. Don't like the muzack they play at you as you're on hold. Nip over to HCLU for a goss (now I know it's good for me they'll be no stopping me). News on the boatman, see Shan, there is no escape!

Stuffed

Family are away at Disney so nip home via Gulshan (www.gulshan-liverpool.com) to get a ruby. First time here so give it a whirl because it's on the way home from the new place. Pint of Cobra as I wait, grab a menu. Lazy mans scran but looking forward to it. place smells appertising and I even cope with the Bollywood muzak (rough translation seems to be 'Hey, son of the John Company, enjoy your food because we haven't forgiven you for Peter Sellers, 'It Ain't 'Alf 'Ot Mum' or Clive but we'll let you off because of cricket).

Scran is fine. Watch a programme about taxidermy. Freaky.

Move Day 6

In which we sort the desks, a hotly contested topic in layout and gain access to the web and phones. Yay, we're in the land of the living. Other than that its a case of emptying crates. Dave works like a thing that works bloody hard, shifting crates. He truly is Mr Crate! Right more from me later from home where I need to run a search for a practice nurse so I can mail it out because IT haven't sorted my mail... (snarl, growl etc.). Right time for home, early kick off via Hammy tommorrow, here then the Heath. Learn I have an induction to do at the Heath from Rachel who wanders by.....

End of the Day

Chelski beat the Arsenal 1-0 with a flukey goal. Already the doom merchants are saying the seasons over. Get a grip, it's one game, two games in, who knows what twists and turns are round the corner. Monst gets a bank holiday so life is easier than it could have been with Mattie arriving tonight from Scotland. Means an early kick off is possible tomorrow.

One Man Went to Mow.... and we said 'Go Away' Most Impolitely

Doh! Realise what the removal men forgot, two cages, various bits of furniture etc. Fuck, fuck, fuck! That's next week early doors sorted, fetch that down. Pics to blame for the revelation. Plan for the morning if Monst allows is early kick off, sort a bit at Hammy to secure some of the stuff, move crates at Regatta to allow furniture shift. Unpack and offer a prayer to Thoth or any other non-existent deity that the phones and PCs are put in. DAB on for 4pm, Arsenal play away at the Bridge and already the freaky press are referring to it as a title decider, two games into the season. Meanwhile Spurs top the league, what's wrong with the planet. Mattie (Monst's Aunt) needs picking up from the bus station at half nine tonight, no doubt that means I have to feed and entertain her having taken Monst to work. Cal catches Z's in advance of a potential late night.
