New blood in the library throws up fresh challenges as things are looked at with fresh eyes. This is good and the result of a simple query about instant messaging from Helen so she can stay in touch with us when working from home results in an implementation of Meebo and the creation of a virtual reference desk on the library site (it's something I've had in mind for a while just never had the excuse to get round to it). I suppose I should check if IT'll be cool with the thing before going for it but what the heck, if I ask them they might care, if we do it ourselves they won't notice until it's too late, there is a head of steam behind the thing - a far easier way to deal with any objections. So having rejigged things accordingly, I get a surprise when I'm sorting out instant messaging tools to feed into Meebo at home when I start receiving messages from Tracy via the thing..... as the Inspiral Carpets would have it this is as Cool as - well you can insert the rest yourself. Now I know this kinda stuff ain't new but it's new to us so bear with me!

Price from Heritage for their Marc Module wings its way to me via Michael at Ormskirk, and their web hosting. Chat to Stevie P. about the latter, check in with Mike F. about the former which confirms my worst fears and my opinion of Heritage. Thankfully we don't use the thing!

Day begins as ever with the news (of which news comes later that the Camp Freddie Navigation Solution is screwed in the new version of blogger). Not much about today thank non-existent deities. Begin to seriously attack the Health Promotion Library stray boxes. Multicultural, Men's Health and Older People come my way. Trouble is the network is getting in the way of me downloading Marc records (Link for the folks at Fade 'Understanding MARC'). Will try at home tonight and then add keywords tomorrow in a mammoth cat sesh. Learnt the otehr day that Heritage will not import Marc without an additional module and more dosh sent their way - pile of shite.......

Johnny Notpod keeps me going with the complete works of Heavenly and a reasonable portion of Holly Golightly. Other than that a few more calls than yesterday but still quiet.

Catalogue-a-go-go round ours today. Monst mails me the crucial spreadsheet with a little help over the phone, the Marc records are downloaded, the records are amended and uploaded, just need a quick keyword and Bob's your Aunty. More importantly, Mo proves the sharing principle by importing the Mersey & Cheshire books into her copy of Liberty. A bit of success on the old Heritage front and it'll be all systems go.

Hitchcock at home, straight to the lugholes, catalogue away. Looks like Dave's crew have put up a creditable fight in the FA Cup.
