Scrubber

There is a moment during the Big T that is today and believe me there is still plenty to do at which I realise the whole thing is like one of those puzzles with one missing piece that are jumbled up until you shift things round to put the pieces back in the right place. Oddly enough it is the Pit that is the key to the piece so I break down the door (er...well open it and return to the room that is meant to be mine in the house). Sort it out and I can sort the dining room. Sort that out I can sort out the kitchen. The living room is done outside of this chicanery as are the halls and stairs. Bedrooms and bathrooms tomorrow then.

All of this and the new hub arrives. Now I'd rather be playig with sorting that out. Ring BT to check out the story on the Hub Phone that I was expecting with it. Turns out that because I'm upgrading within BT I won't get the freebie hub phone. That's fine, I get a substitute bat phone sorted and leave it bleeping downstairs as it charges up.

Reaches a time near 8'ish where I've had enough for the day, suspect I smell like a combination of a Turkish Wrestlers sock and a Monk's jock-strap. Throw in to the mix my right shoulder aches. Waiting on the folks returning to tell me I've
  • not done enough
  • done a half arsed job etc.
Be warned harsh words may follow.

Still the music has been sweet and that's never a bad thing.

Big T

Prepare myself for today's big tidy. Monst is taking the boy out so they are out of my hair. Wanna resist the Mole response of 'Hang, Spring-cleaning!'. So I prepare for the day by listening to 'Ultraviolet' from one Mr. Ed Alleyne-Johnson, former Particle, New Model Army violinist and local to this part of the world. Not my usual listening but nice and chilled. Tea and I'm sorted.

Of The Puritan Desciples of the Minions of Doom

Much as I whinge about them, I know my Minions of Doom in the PCT (The IT Department) are positively pussycats compared with their brethren elsewhere. So it is I was off to Merseycare and Mossley Hill today to do an RSS sesh for a select few local library folk, principally for Bernie and Cath with a ragtag mob along. I arranged to pick Steve up from the Wimmins (local library spelling before you correct me) and then on to the location of the Space 1999 corridor. Prior to this I am reminded how much the LDB are to be trusted as I locate thanks to our Comms leads a training sesh that they were gonna alert me to but hadn't. Do I trust the booking is the question? Also pull together a potential bid for some money for marketing materials.

I wanna be early to check out the IT situation. Thank non-existent deities I was. We spring Blinklist from the shackles of their version of Nonsense, this place is banned under the heading of 'Entertainment' (when? Nobody told me!). Furl is a big no-no but I expected that. Out of 4 laptops we manage to raise from the dead 2 machines. Not an ideal environment. Tracy and Helen come and give me more moral support than I expect they realise. On the positive side the crew is good and there are some lively and sensible discussions about use which is really what I want the sessions to prompt. In fact probably the best sesh I've done in terms of people coming to terms with possible uses of the technology for themselves. It helped that Bernie and Cath have definite plans. It goes better than it should then.

Drop Steve back at the Wimmins and dash for home. Monst and the boy are off watching 'Arthur and the Invisibles' and I need to hoover like mad and tidy up at home (I've been told!) No sooner am I in the door and the hoovering is sorted and blow me but the phone goes and off to Faz I head to pick them up. Grab some food from a chippie on the way and then get a call from home that the Old Fella wishes to test his Skype later. At that point I'm in the middle of the 70's fest that is the soundtrack to 'Life on Mars'. I then hang around waiting for a call for a while. Glad to climb back into the music to be honest. Chill, blog, bed beckons shortly.

Ground Floor Milk Club Christmas Nibbles

So the evening is spent sorting the kitchen floor, adding labels to the latest 100 posts of this place.

Jolly japes, sausage rolls etc in the library today. WFAS come over, we invite ESAT but they hide, Andy from IT, Michelle and Sharon from Clinical Governance come down. It's a pleasant way to spend some time. Nibbles in the library.

Serious shit come in the way of legal work from Iqbal, an FoI conversation and chaing up pledges of dosh for e-journals.

Year Zero Day Five

Er... this began yesterday and overran somewhat.....

Wednesday: Smashing Time

Fucking typical, I leave everything to the last minute as usual, wake early, sort the news, discover I've lost my wallet somewhere, head into work and only then prepare my training session for the afternoon. I'm even at it now taking five and avoiding the need to write the thing. And what will I say to the little sweethearts today, don't leave everything to the last minute and then reveal how stoopid I am for doing so.

Throw into that little lot that I hear some glass smashing and panicking that it was my friendly local pack rats I checked it out only to see a red car head away at a rate of knots away from the house next door to Marie and Terry's old, old house (turns out it was someone nicking the car). Bleary eyed I didn't put two and two together and it later turned out that a brick had been hurled throught hte window, nothing taken. Plod were over later apparently according to Monst and Terry came over to see if I had any more detail before he borded up the window. Me I don't have a scooby. Still a little edgy excitement local to us.

Serendipity is a wonderful thing, yesterday Kate C. Library friend, nurse of more than good standing dropped of some Health Visitors as a donation, one supplied a request in the afternoon. Scooby Snax her way! Even more due to her as I drag some of the journals over to introduce the poor NVQ crew to Harvard referencing. Sesh goes well, main message that we're here to help them gets across and they handle books and journals and fling them about with gay abandon. Nice bunch and I have fun.

Home and the yoedelling hoover comes out and I run round like a loon hoovering up half a cats worth of shed fur. Then its dash back into town to pick up the folks from 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (which they've thoroughly enjoyed. Drag the magic of book with me and apart from being crapped on by a pigeon (yes, I know that it's meant to be lucky) things are fine but I'm knackered by the time I get home.

Frightful Fursday

Why is it that the press are so wedded to the notion of Health Authorities? Primary Care Trust Launches Authority the clues in your headlines boys or girls or those who haven't made up their minds yet.

A day here of arguing with computers, things happen at a snails pace.... Not a good day. Various pdf conversions lighten the day, as do the odd marginally daft mail, good company and coffee that old faithful!

Home and its out with Monst to PC World, the No Mercy, Pizza and Sainsburys, shove lamb into a marinade and the chill.

Flight of the Heffalump

Todays the day we fly, so what do I do, head to Reggie. Few printer problems at home (a vital piece is in the loft) so nip in to print a series of emails. In the process I leave a couple of heaps of stuff for Christina. Discover that there are problems with Lorenzo and Choose & Book, laugh like a drain as a result. Home by 8.00, wash up, tidy the kitchen and blog. Now we have a day full of laundrette visits, haircuts and hanging around to look forward to. It'll be a relief to get on the bloody plane. Best Laid Plans and That Old Tosh

So here was the plan:

  1. Take Cal to his mate Owen's
  2. Monst to go to hairdressers
  3. Me to tidy up downstairs
  4. Monst on return to tidy upstairs
  5. Pick up Cal, eat, bath bed.
Fell down on point two, three and four, I have the kitchen to do, Monst has the bathroom still to do and hairdressers weren't available today. So now continue with the kitchen AM tomorrow, take bedding to the bagwash and Monst sorts hair. Then fly. Why'd it all fail, well for one I have an ongoing FoI request, I finally track down the right people to talk to today. It turns out the requestor has been given some bum advice from DoH. It must be bum because I tracked down what he was after wth two calls, one of which was a wrong number. Not impressed. Drop the requestor a mail and ask for further clarification. Technorati Tags: , ,
