Lost in the Garden of Earthly Delights

Monday - Just Another Manic One As a Result of Sleeping With Prince

Much of the day is spent preparing and dispatching amended proofs to Ken at Printing.com. We arrive at a mutally punctuated guide with much assistance from Suzanne and Mo who've been good to work with on this thing. At least someone kept me from having the screaming ab dabs.

Reminders from Shan about Tuesday and my impending trip to Oldham. Another 'RSS and Blogging for CAS' gig. Print out the goodies and use the extremely difficult to handle thermal binder.

News is a pig because I was a lazy bastard all weekend. Shame on me. Home, feed Monst in a hurry, get her to work, collapse in a heap....

Tuesday

Up at an outlandish hour which is good news because it gives me the opportuity to transfer 'Carrie's War' to the Archos and get on top of the news. Big question for the day is where the fuck is Oldham. Thing is I know I've been through it before and know there are looming Pennines but I can't place it. Tracy comes to the rescue with timings etc. News and meaningful stuff is done before a 10:30'ish exit. I want time to check out what works on the computers at the other end.

If your doing training, do it at the gaff of the family Addison. Seriously, you get a good welcome, choice of teas, choice of coffee and fun conversation thrown in. Blinklist fell over which is a shame because people could tell how much I love the thing. Think they got the message that it is a good thing. Blogger was blocked as Adult but Wordpress to the rescue. Lucy came away with a cunning plan to use My Update so a cool day all round and unusually I had more people arrive than were expected. Kinda fun. The other thing is I got to F (Fat Lenny) on an A-Z listen to the collected works of Heavenly.

Home, feed myself, Monst in from dropping the boy at Beavers. Pick him up and drag Monst to work. The boy wants her to walk, I recon it's about a 3 hour walk from home or a 21 minute drive! No contest. Back at home wash the boy's hair, put him to bed, record 'Shoebox Zoo' and plan on settleing down with 'Life on Mars'.

Now, Where be I?

Losing track of days so I'm hoping this brings me to a sense of where we are in the week!

Wednesday

First off it was Happy Birthday Callum, all of eight years old. I get up late (around 7'sh which means I'm chasing my tail sorting the news - which means I don't get time to chat to Helen about the delights of Zookoda).

Helen (a different one from the other Helen, look this is gonna get confusing be warned) comes over from Leeds to chat about the delights of Primary Care Librarianship. She's cool and has shared attitudes with us as a service. I'm impressed, poor girl put up with me rambling on....

Leave early to fetch the bike for Cal from Halfords, pick Monst up, head to the school and pick up Cal, Aaron, Liam and Jack. Owen who was also meant to be with us had hurled earlier in the day and been sent home. Quick trip down the East Lancs to Frankie and Benny's. everything is sorted, service is good, food is good and we get out in time to see 'Flushed Away' at the Showcase. The kids behave and the jobs a good 'un.

Home, cake and candles with Lil from across the road, write the start of a Zookoda guide for Helen (feeling guilty because I haven't spent enough time with her hatch the plan to catch up with her at Warrington the following day). Crap TV and bed beckons.

Thursday

In early sort the news, start playing with a blog format for the Nursing E-Newsletter that Pat asked us to pull together the other week. Get told we got the wrong bag of post. Nip to a tenants meeting with a very military gentleman chairing (later learn he's just back from Iraq) that lasts 3 times longer than necessary. Interesting thing is that the PCT folk in the room are all losing the will to live by the end of it, the others bang on, and on, and on, and on.

Dash downstairs and chat to Nicola as I frantically beat up printers and rush away to Warrington. Arrive to find everyone at lunch. Chat briefly to Helen (not of Leeds) explain the guide situation (feel slightly less guilty). Vicky asks a favour (which she knows I'm gonna say yes to anyway). Steve and Mo bum a lift back to Liverpool.

Sort some e-KSF training with Linda Black for Tracy and myself, get a promise of some for Nicola and Helen too. See friendly Public Health folk, chat sort out some materials. Big up the LMI.

Meanwhile Cal goes to St Marks to see if he likes it as a school to go back to mainstream at. That goes well, Monst is impressed at the teachers flexibility (the accommodate some of the things that Cal Likes to do into the mornings lessons - cool or what!) All goes well and Monst contacts the LEA to give the thumbs up. Monst has done a cracking job there with minimal support from me. Result. Now just to determine the how and when!

Home, eat, washing, blog catch up, bed beckons. But before that I investigate the new Blinklist Broadcast Widget which results in this page in minutes. I of course ask it to do stoopid things. Mightily impressed, need to drop a mail to Christina.

Ugly Nora

Measures to cut the risk of cot death must be taken for day-time naps as well as night-time sleeps, expert say. Researchers said this includes both the advice that babies should sleep on their backs and that they should be in the same room as their parents.

More than 300 people are thought to have caught a highly infectious virus on the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship. The Norovirus, a vomiting and diarrhoea bug, is common in cruise ships, hospitals and prisons.

New Story

Warning over temporary nurse use - BBC Health News 25th January 2007

A public sector watchdog has warned health officials to monitor their use of temporary nurses. Audit Scotland highlighted the growing use of bank nursing staff by NHS bosses as a way to cope with staff shortages.

Loose Bananas

Day begins as ever with the news (of which news comes later that the Camp Freddie Navigation Solution is screwed in the new version of blogger). Not much about today thank non-existent deities. Begin to seriously attack the Health Promotion Library stray boxes. Multicultural, Men's Health and Older People come my way. Trouble is the network is getting in the way of me downloading Marc records (Link for the folks at Fade 'Understanding MARC'). Will try at home tonight and then add keywords tomorrow in a mammoth cat sesh. Learnt the otehr day that Heritage will not import Marc without an additional module and more dosh sent their way - pile of shite.......

Result of Blinklist use is I come across the Ultimate Google Search Tips Guide which I share with the LIHNN folk.

Johnny Notpod keeps me going with the complete works of Heavenly and a reasonable portion of Holly Golightly. Other than that a few more calls than yesterday but still quiet.

Feeling Fruity

rss_mailXfruits stuff works well. I'm impressed, be interesting to see what Nicola's take on it is. That's if websense lets me near it! Closer to what I'm after than RSS Fwd which suffers from the granularity that is the strength of the stuff we're doing with Blinklist. It sends out a mail an item whereas xfruits sends out the feeds last 30 items. Sure it'll still need a little edit but won't overburden folk.

Of course all of this is required because of our strange insistence on using Explorer and a refusal to upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP which at least offers the possibility of IE7.

Jack Kerouac is Out in the Back

Leave Fade at 10:00 'cos I don't want to be late up Norf. Carlisle gig is fun (another RSS/Blogging gig for Shan), nice folk with a good buzz of ideas about how to exploit the stuff I point them in the direction of. Blinklist seems to go down well. Nice venue, any health service gaff with a view of bullocks can't be bad. Dunno why we don't have more meetings up this far, it's only a coupla hours up the road. Cool beginnings of a team blog up here too (Library and Web Services). Drive up is a little rain bound but I listen to 'Tommy' loud and proud and the views are good, way back and Yo La Tengo are on the job. Even see some sun.

Home and greeted by a hungry cat, she ain't alone as I feed myself too. Couple of glasses of red, little bit of work, bit of shite TV. Chat to Kitty who tells me news of ill health in Scotland (Sharon's Aunt Margaret). Text Monst with the latest. Recieve news from Delhi, they've scooted round New Delhi today. Cal has kipped and that's as much as I know. Lots of pics promised though!

More By Luck Than Judgement Here Am I

Er.... I'd love to claim some sort of superior knowledge but I can't and as I figure it'll only be for today I'm gonna celebrate the fact that AFC Two 'opes are top of the league. Kick off the day with two days worth of news. Network connection seems to be slow at work and it had an impact yesterday with Blinklist and Blogger. The Furl account has returned but Blinklist gives us a smoother work flow.

RSS Training
Mindmap some training that I'll be doing for Shan, send her a copy as a starter for five. Be interested in her feedback. Still needs some work round the repurposing. Technorati Tags: , , , , ,

Come on You Sons of the Desert

Feel like I am becoming the Big C, a position that will amuse those that work with me mightily. Go and chat to a bunch of information governance folk about the C word (as a favour to Tony from MIAA who always makes me laugh - nice geezer), come up with dire warnings about the C word for everyone else, tell our lot it's all a load of bollocks, phoned by Michael with a question about it. Speak to the geezer at Hill Dicks who rattled my cage too. C may be the heavenly option but it drives me nuts. Meanwhile my professional body is sting people for ill octopus a pop for their reaction, impressed, er..... no. I even speak to the local Mr Risk and raise the issue as a risk, now have to fill out a risk log.......doh! FoI raises its ugly head with an email from Jim asking me to have a polite word with someone. I have more than a few polite words and the matter resolves itself. Deep joy. Another day dealing with a Michael Portillo lookie likey...... Introduce Tracy to the wonders of Blinklist and news is away. Dunno what the hell else I did today, other than write a reference for Nicola for library school that wasn't nearly as good as she deserves. Meanwhile Tunisia do me proud by scoring..... good for my league position given the pack around me..... Argue with Cal over bed time, not impressed with me.... Technorati Tags: , , , , , ,

Smurfs Win Knobbly Knee Contests

Saturday Day 2 of Blinklist, looks like a change of work flow is gonna be needed. On the plus side should speed up some of the prep work for the e-mail version. Head to the No Mercy, Monst after brown paper and processing her Disney snaps. Have a pizza for lunch and then head over to the Grange at Gateacre to take Cal to Dean's party. Spend the time he is at the party sorting food for the evening as we slap some steaks on the barbecue. Works out well then Monst heads to work. Not perhaps the most exciting of days! Sunday Fetch Monst from work, feed her, Cal remains asleep throughout the whole gig, I feel drained so as soon as Monst hits her pit I go and crash in Cal's bed for a couple of hours. Most unusual for me, feel better for it. Rehit the Blinklist stuff and get news ready to roll for the morning. Phone home on the Sunday constitutional, feel knackered. Waiting on Monst calling. The 2Bs beckon. On the Fantasy Leage front, remain in second place behind Ken with Christina breating down my neck, suspect tomorrow will see me lose places, a bad game for Spain would suit me! We can't find faith in the good times rat race

Still trying to get my head round where we go as a result of the FURL ferrago (still no response to my frantic e-mail yesterday!). So today I begin playing with Blinklist which looks promising and will I am sure deliver as soon as I have my head round it. Another day of the c word and then bloody Hill Dicks get in on the act....... fuckers...... Technorati Tags: , , ,
