Only thing for it is make a brew, sup some coffee, catch up with some blogs and relax. I guess I should be stressed by it but there's the rest of the weekend to get stressed in. Even plan on indulging in marmite toast. Deep joy.

The moment that Cal and I realised that the Lawrence of Arabia gig, wasn't necessarily for us. The Camel (Simba) was OK, only whinged when we went down hill (mind you, Cal did too).

The Space Centre gig now looks a little wobbly because Cal would prefer to go to Chester Zoo. I'm not really up for that right now. Helen and Lonen are meant to be coming too, so if Helen offers to take them I might duck out of the whole thing. On the other hand I might not get away with that.

Usual Saturday routine returns. Hit the aggregator, get ready for the news push.

Mike sends me a photo of the new family. Must send a suitable mail later today. He looks incredibly healthy unlike the FLB me and the family look incredibly attractive. Nice to see. Lazy me is kinda hping he's wandering into the blog because the Egypt photo's that are addorning posts at the moment might save me a minor bit of hassle. Still, I've ever been the lazy bastard.

Kinda Egyptian Heaven Up Here

Odd reaction as I catalogue them, something approaching the sensation of cataloguing a kipper is the nearest I can get to it.

Monst decides she wants to go to the chinese at Bold Heath. That'll be nice but costly and has plans to go to the National Space Centre at Leicester tomorrow. Who in their right mind puts a Space Centre in Leicester? You'd want somewhere exotic like Clacton wouldn't you!

You Can Sleep with the Sleepers, or Be Active With the Activists, While You Wait for the Great Leap Forwards

Curses my grand plan to get each of us creating a lego persona for someone else in the library (principally because it would have been amusing for about five minutes) has been hit by Nonsense. I hate Websense with a passion. Treat people as grown ups they'll respond that way... or is that way too naive?

Finally get the Aswan pics tagged and titled in Flickr in the trad library phrase 'It's a race against time'. Waiting on a mail from Matt and I'd like them to be sorted before I send the URL to people. It is a cracking little service. However I tidy my tags like a librarian..... what did you expect!

Day On One Donkey Power

Busy day sorting FoI matters, deep joy. Advising my old gaff at Leighton which cheers me up and laughing like a drain (why to drains laugh? Presumably because gutters tell 'em filthy jokes). Sorting some stuff for the Royal which involves delving into the murky world of NHS/DH accountability. Mysterious stuff indeed. Get hold of DoH FoI folk and finally resolve the location of some docs. Yay, I really don't have them so not my prob. Create one for them though!

Kick off complaints gubbins with Jim. Good stuff. Pick up my evidence folders from HCLU and drop off 'All Fun and Games Until Someone Loses an Eye' for Shan. Chat with Linda, which is nice. Seems ages since I last caught up with her.

Also discover this which I think may be mildly amusing for tomorrow. Courtesy of the Librarian in Black a literal if virtual exercise in team building I think!

Jobs for the morning, chase this.

FoI Complaints under S45 Code of Practice

  • Must have documented complaints procedure. This also covers Publication Scheme matters.
  • Should notify on refusing request particulars of the route to complain.
  • Treat all expressions of dissatisfaction with releases as complaints. Handle in accordance with procedure.
  • Procedure provide a fair and thorough review of handling issues and of decisions taken pursuant to the Act, including decisions taken about where the public interest lies in respect of exempt information.
  • Public authority should in any event undertake a full re-evaluation of the case, taking into account the matters raised by the investigation of the complaint.
  • Prompt acknowledgement and target date for decision should be communicated to requestor as soon as possible.
  • Must always inform complainant of outcome of complaint.
  • Authorities should set their own target times for dealing with complaints; these should be reasonable, and subject to regular review.
  • Records should be kept of all complaints and of their outcome. Authorities should have procedures in place for monitoring complaints and for reviewing, and, if necessary, amending, procedures for dealing with requests for information where such action is indicated by more than occasional reversals of initial decisions.
  • If decision is to disclose refused information this should be done as soon as possible.
  • If refusal upheld must inform individual of right of appeal to the Information Commisioner.

  • Something mildly amusing about things with a knob on the end should be inserted here

Lonen stopped with us last night because Helen is mid family feud and was working in the ITU at the CTC. Not a bother but the first time it has happened despite repeated assertions that it isn't a bother. I guess the interesting element is the waking up and Cal going to school.

Meanwhile my e-access to Public Servant is finally activated. So media whore time at the SHA then later. Need to do so here but I'm inclined to use the official release channel. Must remember to call Gail. Right time for coffee and then to flee Hammy and head for the Heath. Mildly wonder if Regatta Place our new home will be contracted to Reggie?

Phone the Information Commissioner for some advice. Advice is dispensed and guides me to the DCA Code of Practice. We comply with it and the guidance is clear and reassures me. I am also quite confident in the decision we took in the first place so I'm more chilled about the complaint than I suspect I might otherwise be. A learning experience beckons...

Finish the job app process. Post it, even print the letter on headed paper, theres fancy now!

Main headache of the day are the new phones for the new library. They have caller display and being the lazy sort I am I intend to put job titles on them because then when people move we don't have to change anything, just have a new person in the role taking over the phone. It's part of a move away from the personality cult, to save loads of bother as people move about. Always a difficult balance do you want people to associate with a person in the library, which is beneficial and gives the place a warm and cuddly vibe or do yoou want them to relate to the service as a whole. Answers on a postcard....

Monst meanwhile continues to be paranoid nurse woman, not content with a bout of Pharoah's she has now convinced herself she has dysentry. Of course if she has she'll have the last laugh but how typical is it for anyone in the clinical professions to go for the most dramatic of possibilities when they are themselves ill. Common cold, nah, it's bird flu mate!

Meanwhile a pic of Cal at the Cairo Museum. Fascinating place but Cal for some reason didn't think so! Sally calls, something has cropped up so she's off today. I've been invited to apply for my job as part of the PCT restructure which I suppose I should be stressed about but really am not. Just the hassle of locating and updating my CV really. Which I should do anyway. Monst calls to get me to chase up the OT report on Cal from our last visit to Whiston in April. All this before 8.00. Looks like a busy day developing before things start.

She still has the Pharoah's and all of us are beginning to get a bit concerned. Plan is to hit the GP to see what's to do.

Phone home, ET like and end up spending much of the evening sorting a doc for the ould fella. Neat bit of table formatting has stumped him his end, not helped by differing word versions between his work and home.

Wake up with the lush sounds of Goldrush as a result of finally picking up 'Don't Bring Me Down' yesterday. Can see more of their stuff becoming kinda essential before the end of the summer. Also retains the tenuous Oxford music scene connections that are inevitable in Loopy Towers.

Order a Belkin Portable Music TuneCast II FM Transmitter to facilitate the use of Jonny Notpod in the car, thus expanding the range of music available to me to listen to with none of the associated storage problems. Looks liek an interesting device and finally a sensible use for the cigarette lighter. Mind you I'm not certain it isn't really a case of keeping up with the iPod Queen Sally!

The Sphinx's Beard is in the British Museum

OK so my data goes off to Softlink today. Bludgeon DB Textworks into some sort of submission which comes as a relief. The Cairs stuff was there already. Mail off the files along with data structures and hope that the conversion thereafter makes sense. Look forward to some feedback from them and some timescales. At least we're begining to move forward on the conversion and have to admit it's been me dragging my heals as much as anything else that's been getting in the way.

Been trying to get my head round Notpod battery life too. So far been playing constantly since around half seven this morning so going quite well with random play resulting in the usual eclectic mix of stuff.

Lordy, give 'em a few thousand years and they still leave the place looking like a building site. There was even a stray shoe on site as per regs...

This photo is really here for the people that know me so we can get the ridicule thing out the way now......

Two Random French Blokes and a Callum

OK so this Flickr blogging lark is interesting in the location of the photies, not quite where I was expecting them to appear at all but that's cool. Anyway on arriving at Giza Cal starts making friends with the not-natives. Not phased by these guys at all, we chatted in a mix of pigeon English and French. Mind you I think they were well baffled by my French, the display of the stuff I learnt writing the odd abstract of French geophysical reports on borehole studies for potential repository sites for nuclear waste ain't exactly conversational. Be warned as I get myself sorted more photies will appear. The prints are out htere following yesterdays trip to boots and I've a couple of rolls of 35mm still to develop!

I See the Claret Stained Your Dress

Hooray, the long sought for and posessor of a Google cloaking device Mike Calcutt gets in touch. Man it's been years. Enough time for lots to happen, a flurry of e-mail conversation cheers me up last night. Serendipity strikes again because the copy of 'Powdered Lobster Fiasco' reminds me of him because of his rep as a Mick Murphy look-a-like! The Wallingford diaspora as Mike is now over in in the States in Washington doing his IT thang. First e-mail mentions something about writing style to check it's me. Style, where? When? Start the process of sorting the pics on Flickr and begin the process of tagging them. Early blogging experiment type thing suggests titling the things may be an idea too! Meanwhile footer around in work because I feel a little disconnected from it all. Yesterday kicked off with a cracking little FoI prob that arrived while in Egypt, dispensed advice and ran from doing the reply. Brownie point job though and that's never a bad thing. Random play on the Notpod, hooked to speakers works nicely this morning. It all makes sense to me but I suspect to other peoples ears it's a bloody mess.

    Tail End of the Day

4'ish and my brain and body agree it's about 6'ish. Egyptian time strikes. Dave has been feeding me coffee which has kept me going. Brief trip out this lunchtime. Monst has found the missing photos and started the mammoth task of catching up with the washing. Cal skived school today. Don't blame him. Photies to be sorted tonight.

I've Never Knew Just Why I Couldn't Understand

'Powdered Lobster Fiasco' waits for me as I pick through the remains of events last week. Shove it in and try to get my head round what I have and don't have on the catalogue. Need to chat to Stevie P. I think to recreate what was the last dated update. Need to get data out to Softlink today too. Looks like a long day ahead....

    Arrive Liverpool

    Now...

We're All Going to Hell in a Chrome Wheelbarrow

Break out the Jazz Butcher and remind myself how jangle, judicous samples, feedback howl can get you through those moments when Dullsville, Warwickshire can seem exciting. Dunno why Mr. Fish seems as right for a land full of verdure as the Sisters of Mercy did for the desert the other day.

Monst continues to phone people she hasn't been able to call all week. Means she'll have run out of the need to phone anyone by the time we arrive home.

From the brief glance I've had at peoples papers seems Ashley Cole may be off, Spurs seem to be in turmoil (how this gladdens my heart!). Beyond this I know nothing. Arseblog though fills in some of the gaps though in typical robust style.

Monst and Cal bicker behind me and I find myself next to the travelling companion from Hades. He seems to want to occupy one and a half seats in his sleep. I'm not slim enough to do half a seat!

    Bored on a train

Book still in my case and not a chance of getting hold of it leads me to become a devotee of the shite corporate rags placed in some marketing hope by airlines and rail companies. 'Horus' the Egypt Air effort I managed to despatch before take off this morning. Articles on the 'Valley of the Golden Mummies', Crete and somewhere in Kent that deals with conifers. A reet rivetting read that that has me trying to find the hurl bag for a bit of amusing reading to follow. Still it had jolly jape cartoons (how they failed to make me laugh) and the duty free if you had the dollars to pay for it.

Currently I'm on a train with 'Hotline' but I've done this route so frequently recently that I've read it. It isn't bad but a more frequent refresh rate is required.

I'd blog the journey but I've done that lots too recently and much as I love to hurl invective in the direction of Milton Keynes, there is a limit to the amount I can manage.

    Virgin on the Rediculous

Land at Heathrow marginally of schedule. Wait ten minutes on the tarmac to get off the plane. So probably all told about 20 minutes max behind schedule before we have the horror of waiting on the bags. Baggage took an hour to come out so I tend to suspect that the baggage handlers were on a go slow but we had a baggage handler who either had a sense of humour or alternatively who had arthritis, a limp, one arm, one leg, was given a small tricycle to transport bags between plan and reclaim and was a fan of the 'Generation Game'. Eventually it felt like only our group of weary Egyptian travellers was waiting on its bags. Big cheers of relief when Caroline's first bag appears. We dash off to the Heathrow Express.

Journey to Paddington uneventful as was the journey to Euston. It's at this point things really go silly. We grab some food, which in retrospect was a cunning plan. Later we learn that the 14.10 to Lime Street was returned to Euston. The 17.20 we're meant to be on was cancelled, so we're now on what is meant to be the 18.20 along with the other two trains. Chaos ain't the word. Makes me wonder if Branson needs a stiff talking to. Our seat reservations binned but then so are everyone elses. It's like the bad old days of British Rail.

Cal breaks out the DVD's and Monst calls Kitty. Normal service seems to be returning. Even the train shop (what happened to buffet cars, when did they become non-pc?) Is open for a selection of cold and hot snacks and alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.

    Last Egyptian Post

Monst attempts to wipe out the Bureau de Change by changing back the Egyptian currency but they politely tell her to sod off. She'll change it when we get back.

Security a bit bothered by the stone in my pocket but kinda accept it when they discover what is.

Airport duty free leaves me as cold as ever. Waiting hanging around when disaster strikes. No book. No books to buy, 4+ hours of flying.... Aaaaaargh!
